About the roleWriter is building a world-class people function, and we're looking for a people operations manager who brings both depth and range. This is a role for someone who thinks in systems, operates with autonomy, and genuinely loves the craft of operations - from the strategic to the hands-on.
You're not just executing processes; you're designing them. You approach people programs the way an engineer approaches a product: with curiosity, rigor, and a bias toward scalability. You can own a project end-to-end, navigate ambiguity without hand-holding, and still show up as a collaborative, trusted partner to everyone around you.
This role sits at the center of our people team and touches everything - lifecycle, compliance, systems, analytics, and experience. You'll help us build the infrastructure that scales with us as we grow.
What you'll do- Lead and continuously improve all stages of the employee lifecycle: pre-boarding, onboarding, role changes, and offboarding.
- Define, document, and improve people operations processes and best practices.
- Lead people team initiatives from scoping through execution: company events, employee experience programs, policy rollouts, system implementations, and organizational change management.
- Lead and implement automation efforts using WRITER's own AI platform - identifying opportunities to streamline processes and connect our people tools into more efficient workflows.
- Administer and optimize our HRIS and people tooling. Build and maintain operational dashboards to surface key people metrics
- Manage compliance posture across federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Lead internal audits, maintain accurate employee records, update our employee handbook, and develop training and communications to keep the organization aligned with legal and regulatory standards.
- Partner with employees and legal counsel to manage visa processing and global mobility cases with accuracy and care.
- Navigate sensitive employee relations matters with sound judgment, empathy, and professionalism.
- Work closely with recruiting, finance, legal, IT, and compliance to design efficient cross-functional workflows.
☆ What you need- 7+ years of experience in human resources, people operations, or a closely related operational role - ideally at a high-growth technology company
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement processes from scratch, not just inherit and maintain them
- Strong project management skills: you're organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams simultaneously
- A systems-thinking mindset - you naturally map workflows, look for automation opportunities, and build for scale
- Experience with people analytics: building dashboards, tracking trends, and using data to inform strategy
- Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms and a track record of improving HR operational systems
- Deep knowledge of employment law and HR compliance across federal, state, and local regulations
- High emotional and social intelligence - you build genuine relationships across all levels and functions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you're a clear, confident presenter
Even better if...- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certification
- Track record of using AI and automation tools to significantly improve people ops workflow efficiency and employee experience.
- Experience building databases or improving HR operational infrastructure
