Our Laboratory Medicine Department uses state of the art equipment, technology and processes to collect and test clinical specimens in order to obtain information about the health of our patients so that our inter-professional teams can diagnose, treat and prevent disease.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Laboratory Director and Director, Laboratory Medicine our Pathologist Assistants II are responsible in performing a variety of tasks consisting primarily of gross examination of surgical pathology specimens and the assistance with the performance of autopsies under the direction and supervision of a pathologist

Hours of Work: 8 hour rotating shifts from Monday - Friday, including weekends (if required) - subject to change as per Management Rights
Location: Hennick HUmber Hospital, Wilson Site - subject to change as per Management Rights.

Salary Range: $87,299.55- $109,196.10
Reporting Relationship: Chief Medical Laboratory Director and Director, Laboratory Medicine
Position Responsibilities:- Preparation of human tissue surgical specimens, including gross description and dissection of specimens, for histological examination by a Pathologist.
- Assist Pathologists with adult and neonatal postmortem examinations (autopsies).
- Utilize digital photography techniques, including mapping of specimens.
- Support frozen section procedures, including preparation and handling.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to special procedures/protocols for specimen procurement and processing.
- Manage and maintain surgical/anatomic pathology protocols, including data entry and report management.
- Ensure compliance with medico-legal protocols for specimen handling, autopsy procedures, and patient privacy/confidentiality.
- Adherence to established safety protocols including chemical, biological, and radiation.
- Assisting in Surgical and Autopsy rounds as needed.
- Performing administrative, budgetary, supervisory, teaching and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- Undergraduate Degree in Science and/or related discipline required.
- Certification or candidacy with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) or equivalent an asset.
- Masters of Science degree in a Pathologist Assistant Program an asset.
- Experience in surgical pathology specimen grossing with strong knowledge in human anatomy, dissection techniques and anatomical presentation of diseased tissues.
- Experience as a Pathologist Assistant preferred.
- Experience in adult and neonatal autopsy an asset.
- Experience in gross dissection with strong knowledge of human anatomy, dissection techniques and gross pathology in normal and disease states required.
- High attention to detail and observational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including Pathologists, surgeons, nurses, MLTs, lab assistants and clerical staff.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, teamwork, and customer service skills required.
- Computer literacy in windows-based applications, and knowledge of Meditech and Cerebro software an asset.
- Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and professional conduct.
