  • Draft client correspondence and reporting letters.
  • Oversee the billing process in coordination with the Billing Department.

Full Job Description

That's why we're looking for a Patent Specialist to provide comprehensive patent prosecution support to attorneys and clients throughout the U.S. patent application lifecycle.

This position has flexibility to work remotely 100% of the time.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for...
  • Managing assigned dockets and collaborating with IP docketing team
  • Reviewing, processing, and filing new applications and supplemental files
  • Preparing e-filings of IDSs, Supplemental ADSs (application data sheets), Declarations, Assignments, Translations of Specifications, and Preliminary Amendments
  • Assisting with responses to various Office Actions
  • Preparing client correspondence and various reporting letters
  • Managing the billing process; collaborating with Billing Department

  • Ability to independently and efficiently prioritize workflow and maintain an organized task schedule
  • Ability to manage high volume and efficiently prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to various practice management styles of assigned legal staff
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed

Pay Range for Candidates in Washington, DC: $90,000 - $110,000 per year

The range provided is the minimum and maximum salary that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location.

Skills & Technical Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience, including partner-level practice management support
  • Proven knowledge of federal rules, regulations, and U.S. and international Intellectual Property Law (37 C.F.R., MPEP, PCT regulations)
  • Ability to effectively utilize IP docketing software (CPi), USPTO online resources (Patent Center, Assignment Center, Open Data Portal) and other patent-related websites
  • Proficient knowledge and usage of document management system (iManage)
  • Ability to prioritize workflow independently and efficiently, and maintain an organized task schedule
  • Ability to manage high volume and efficiently prioritize competing demands
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with particular attention to detail
