Full Job Description
Location: This is a hybrid in-office role.

About the Team:

Medidata Legal is looking for a Paralegal to provide overall support for our Legal Team, with primary responsibility for litigation and legal operations, and regular support of our commercial/corporate, employment, and data privacy groups. You'll be part of a lean, fast-paced team of approximately 20 attorneys and legal professionals, working across a genuine variety of matters rather than a single narrow lane - and adapting quickly as priorities shift is part of the job.

Alongside traditional paralegal fundamentals, we're looking for someone who's tech-forward: comfortable with legal tech tools, and skilled and curious about how AI-assisted tools can be applied responsibly to speed up drafting, research, and workflows. We're looking for someone who will act as an innovation champion for the legal team, identifying and helping scale the workflows that free up attorney and paralegal time for higher-value work.

Responsibilities:

Litigation
  • Support all aspects of document discovery, including e-discovery, document management, the litigation hold process, and document production
  • Act as a liaison among Legal, Enterprise Support, vendors, and outside counsel to ensure an effective e-discovery process; maintain systems supporting document preservation and e-discovery storage and retrieval
  • Assist in-house and outside counsel with coordinating responses to subpoenas, data subject access requests, and written discovery demands
  • Maintain comprehensive litigation and pre-litigation case files and trackers, and prepare monthly/quarterly status reports

Legal Operations & Technology
  • Serve as a power user of the team's legal tech stack (document management, contract/matter management platforms)
  • Use AI-assisted approved tools for drafting support, document summarization, research, and file management - always with careful human verification of outputs
  • Identify repetitive or manual workflows across litigation, corporate, and other functions, and help design and launch automation initiatives that reduce manual workload and improve turnaround time
  • Evaluate new AI/ML legal tools as they emerge and make recommendations on adoption
  • Support the team's exposure to and interest in project management as it takes on more cross-functional initiatives

Commercial/Corporate
  • Assist with corporate governance matters and management of entities worldwide
  • Manage projects supporting commercial and compliance programs, including annual compliance training initiatives and corporate policy management
  • Assist in managing the document retention program
  • Generate and manage legal templates, prepare correspondence, and assist in creating presentations
  • Interact with outside counsel and vendors to ensure compliance with company policies and billing guidelines

Employment
  • Support employment matters including investigations, personnel file management, and compliance documentation
  • Assist with maintaining employment policy documentation and tracking compliance training

Data Privacy
  • Support privacy program operations such as reviewing documentation, policies, data subject requests, privacy impact assessments, or compliance trackers as needed.

Team & Workload
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities across litigation, corporate, employment, and privacy matters
  • Manage competing deadlines across multiple attorneys and practice areas

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of in-house paralegal experience, with a strong foundation in litigation (corporate/commercial experience also considered)
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to anticipate what will be needed, analyze issues, and problem-solve independently
  • Desire to learn new skills and step outside traditional paralegal tasks, including exposure to or interest in project management
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with AI tools in a professional context

Preferred:
  • A track record of designing or launching automation initiatives that improved efficiency or reduced manual workload
  • Exposure to commercial/corporate matters (governance, compliance programs)
  • Exposure to data privacy compliance work (e.g., data subject access requests, privacy program documentation)
  • Experience with a contract management or matter management platform
  • Prior experience in a legal operations or process-improvement capacity

Logistics
  • Hybrid schedule: currently 3 days per week in our New York, NY office; 2 days remote
  • Team size: Supporting a legal team of approximately 20 attorneys and legal professionals

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis; the company will not provide sponsorship for this position.
