Overview

This position is 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday, daytime hours.

Responsibilities
  • Provides expert nursing care. Assists other nurses and health care professionals, serving as a mentor and role model, in achieving and/or maintaining clinical competence through dissemination of information in informal bedside teaching, educational programs, and patient rounds.
  • Leads and supports the competency-based orientation program, including conducting an annual evaluation to ensure its effectiveness and ongoing improvement.
  • Interprets and applies relevant nursing theories and conceptual frameworks to help nurses understand the rationale and basis of professional nursing practice for diverse pediatric and adult patient populations.
  • Develops and coordinates annual educational programs required by The Joint Commission (TJC) and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
  • Serves as a standing member of the Staff Development Committee and participates in and/or chairs departmental and institutional committees related to practice.
  • Assists with nursing staff education and patient/family education provided by other nursing staff (i.e., Primary Staff Nurse, Senior Staff Nurse, Nurse Manager).
  • Maintains completed orientation records and individual employee educational files.
  • Maintains list of certified nurses and ensures current list is available on the nursing units.
  • Initiates and collaborates in developing patient/family educational material.
  • Identifies nursing practice concerns, utilizes a problem-solving approach, and change theories to initiate and support changes needed to ensure quality of patient care.
  • Leads the development of new activities and approaches to improve nursing care outcomes.
  • Assists with introducing, implementing, and evaluating new devices and/or procedures related to the care of a specific patient population.
  • Completes regular reviews and contributes to professional literature by bringing current trends to the attention of staff nurses.
  • Perform monthly visits to all sites under the oversight of the nurse educator.
  • Professionally collaborates and participates in leadership discussions around programmatic growth in alignment with best practices and accreditation standards.
  • Must be able to move from office to office or to various locations throughout the course of the workday.
  • Must be able to work and travel to and from different locations and sites within Maryland and/or nationally, as needed.


Qualifications

Education:

Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is required.

Experience:

Five years of pediatric experience and/or developmentally disabled population is required. Staff education experience is required.

License:

Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license from Maryland or a compact state.

Certification:

Current CPR certification that included hands on skills

Minimum pay range

USD $72,770.26/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $129,818.62/Yr.
