Description
Hennepin County's Human Resources (HR) department is seeking three Principal Organizational Development Consultants to provide expertise in organizational development and change management initiatives across county departments.

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and work will be performed on-site two to three days per week at 625 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55487, other county locations, and remotely as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In these positions, you will:
  • Develop and implement countywide change management framework(s) and accompanying strategies to support leaders in planning for and executing organizational change.
  • Support design and implementation of executive leadership development programs and learning experiences, including executive coaching.
  • Develop content and training aligned with organizational needs and priorities for all leaders.
  • Grow employee initiatives designed to provide professional development opportunities, enhance commitment, improve performance, reduce turnover and build a positive organizational culture.
  • Partner to deliver organizational development expertise to countywide projects and identify strategies for success.
  • Support executive and senior leaders and their teams to increase effectiveness via assessments, formal facilitation methods, and research-based tools.
  • Collaborate with department leadership, HR partners and other county stakeholders to address organizational challenges and opportunities.
  • Monitor organizational development function effectiveness using engagement analytics, best practice research, and evaluation tools.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accomplish job duties and deliverables.


Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Eight or more years of professional human resources or related experience.
    • Certificate in human resources from an approved college or university and six or more years of professional human resources or related experience.
    • Two years of college including 12 semester credits in the fields below and six or more years of professional human resources or related experience.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, industrial relations, human resources administration, organization development, public administration, psychology or a field closely related to the position and four or more years of professional human resources or related experience.

    • Designing and implementing formal change management approaches in large organizations.
    • Designing and implementing executive leadership development programming.
    • Coaching executive leaders using formal programs and methods.
    • Consulting with leaders to identify and implement strategies to strengthen workplace culture, team effectiveness, leadership development, and employee engagement.
  • Certificates/certifications in tools and/or methodologies related to team effectiveness, leadership development, change management, facilitation, organizational culture, and/or process improvement.
  • Knowledge of:
    • OD principles and practices.
    • Organizational behavior and team/group dynamics.
    • Drivers of employee engagement.
    • Leader and team assessment, leadership development, and talent management tools and processes.
  • Ability to:
    • Translate complex organizational development concepts to employees and leaders, both written and verbally.
    • Manage organizational projects and initiatives that span multiple departments or business areas.
    • Adapt programs, strategies and tools to meet a variety of evolving business needs.
    • Facilitate a broad range of stakeholders and deliver outcomes.
    • Establish key performance indicators to track progress over time.
  • Commitment to utilizing equity informed approaches and practices in the workplace.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion with a focus on disparities elimination.
