Job Description:

SHIFT: 12 hour night shift 7p-7am

Assumes 24-hour on-call responsibility for timely response to organ donor referrals and import organ offers for local transplant centers. Provides family support and requests authorization for organ and tissue donation in a sensitive and compassionate manner. Ensures organs from donors meet CMS, CDC, and OPTN safety standards, including performing required infectious disease tests and accurately labeling and transcribing test results. Directs hospital physicians and nurses in donor evaluation and management according to policies, collaborating with the Medical Director as needed. Communicates with team leaders, directors, and medical directors to ensure decisions aim to obtain all possible transplantable organs and tissues. Allocates organs according to OPTN policy, addressing and solving compliance barriers independently or with resources. Oversees the organ donor surgical procedure to recover, preserve, label, package, and transport all viable organs, leading the organ recovery process. Maintains accurate records of the organ referral, authorization, evaluation, optimization, allocation, recovery, and distribution process. Reports and documents occurrences not consistent with policy, regulation, or law promptly. Provides outcomes of organ donation procedures to donor families, medical examiners, funeral homes, recipient transplant centers, donor hospitals, and tissue and eye banks. Collaborates with the Hospital and Professional Services Department to provide clinical education programs for nurses and physicians. Assists with training and orientation of new Organ Procurement Coordinators as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

• in healthcare related field such as RN, PA, Respiratory Therapist, EMT-B, EMT-P, foreign medical graduate or previous experience as an OPC

Work Experience:
• 3+ recent experience in donor management and organ allocation with a cms certified opo [Preferred]• Extensive critical care experience [Preferred]• Public speaking experience [Preferred]• Teaching / Precepting experience [Preferred]• Trauma Center experience [Preferred]
