About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Operations Senior Supervisor to lead refinery operations and drive safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible performance. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, this role is accountable for leading a high-performing team of operators, executing daily and weekly operational plans, and ensuring disciplined control of work across critical refinery units. We are looking for a leader who sets clear expectations, drives accountability, and fosters a culture of teamwork, operational excellence, and continuous improvement while delivering consistent business results.

Work Environment:
  • This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area,
  • This is a full-time employee position working 12 hours 7 days on, 7 days off, day shift rotation.


What you'll do:
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental excellence, ensuring compliance and driving a culture focused on zero incidents and environmental harm.
  • Lead and manage refinery Operations personnel to achieve daily and weekly production targets, including prioritization and execution of work activities.
  • Oversee control of work processes (LOTO, isolation plans, abnormal conditions) to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations.
  • Drive execution of daily orders, maintenance schedules, and short-term operational plans while supporting plant start-ups, shutdowns, and process recovery.
  • Ensure effective shift handovers, approve logbooks and timesheets, manage staffing coverage, and facilitate safety and operational meetings.
  • Manage team performance through coaching, mentoring, performance reviews, and ensuring training and competency compliance.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills, incident initial response, and Emergency Response Team (ERT) activation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support unit performance, plant optimization, energy and chemical efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.


Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Minimum 10 years of Operations experience, including at least 5 years in a refinery or related industrial environment.
  • Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering certification or related engineering degree required
  • Previous leadership experience in a refinery or petrochemical setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of union agreements and labor relations practices considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of process flow diagrams and refinery systems.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and sound decision-making abilities in complex operational environments.
  • Solid knowledge of safety management systems, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of refinery operations and process fundamentals.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
