Full Job Description
POsition SUmmary

This position is accountable for establishing and executing manufacturing strategy, ensuring safety compliance, while providing leadership and direction in the daily operation. Actively supports/drives lean/continuous improvement initiatives and responsible for leading Production teams.

Key role responsibilities

Operations Leadership
  • Assures a clean and safe working environment for all employees, emphasizing prevention of potential problems and hazardous conditions,. Ensuring compliance to all safety requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with site environmental permits as well as hazardous waste disposal.
  • Lead and manage all production resources to ensure the achievement of all committed Key Performances Indices (KPI's).
  • Establish manufacturing strategy that supports overall strategic initiatives.
  • Define manufacturing improvement goals and supporting programs to reduce setup, improve productivity and quality, reduce manufacturing cycle time, lower conversion costs, minimize machine downtime and achieve on time delivery.
  • Implement cost reduction programs and reengineer existing processes to reduce the manufacturing cost of sales.
  • Develop and maintain a highly motivated workforce through training and employee development programs in each of the assigned areas of responsibility to elevate the skill level of employees, as well as provide flexibility in a multi-functional workforce environment.
  • Directly supervises, coaches and develops Production Supervisors in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws assuring a safe and productive environment.
  • Able to adjust work schedule to accommodate operational needs.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and engaged workplace culture by promoting employee morale, recognition, teamwork, and open communication.
  • May be required to perform additional duties as assigned.


Lean/Manufacturing
  • Actively participate in process Improvement activities via Lean as well as root cause analysis of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and/or Cost abnormalities
  • Identify and implement process improvements in the production facility.
  • Evaluate process for automation opportunities
  • Work directly with the site Lean Leader as well as other site leadership in implementing lean enterprise principles.
  • Support developing, writing and executing capital equipment requests.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience is required.
  • Experience in a Unionized environment is required. Experience participating in contract negotiations is considered an asset.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Candidate should have broad based knowledge of progressive manufacturing practices including Lean principles, inventory management, production scheduling and control, resource planning, budgeting and cost control.
  • Should be effective in selecting and developing team members at both a production and professional level.
  • Good interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word and Power Point)
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstances and have the ability to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise judgement for employees and business information
