What We Are Looking For

This role is responsible for supervising personnel and coordinating daily operations related to the movement of petroleum coke and coal, as well as the maintenance of coke handling equipment and facilities. The position ensures all Kinder Morgan safety policies, operational procedures, and environmental regulations are consistently followed and enforced.

What You Will Do

  • Direct and supervise employees by assigning tasks related to coke/coal movement and maintenance of handling equipment and facilities.
  • Enforce all Kinder Morgan policies and procedures to ensure safe, efficient operation of petcoke handling systems.
  • Monitor and verify adherence to established safety standards and procedures.
  • Ensure new hires receive adequate training for their assigned duties.
  • Manage the full hiring process, from job postings through onboarding and completion.
  • Oversee the company's job progression program, ensuring proper administration and timely presentations as required.
  • Demonstrate and effectively communicate knowledge of petroleum coke transport and bulk material handling operations.
  • Train and develop staff in loading and unloading procedures; collaborate with maintenance and electrical teams on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic system repairs.
  • Support employees in troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment and machinery issues.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, process requisitions, and procure materials in compliance with company purchasing policies.
  • Review production schedules and estimate labor hours needed to complete assignments.
  • Communicate company policies and job expectations clearly, assign responsibilities, and adjust workflows to meet production targets while ensuring safety compliance.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance production efficiency, equipment performance, and handling quality.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental impacts, perform TCEQ discharge water sampling, and ensure accurate recordkeeping to meet regulatory requirements. Recommend changes to improve operational efficiency across teams.
  • Evaluate and resolve operational challenges; support employees in problem-solving and encourage motivation to meet performance goals.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and overtime records, coordinating with administrative staff to address timekeeping and weekly timesheet matters.

What You Need

Education & Experience Requirements

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred, or two to five years of relevant experience and/or training; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

This position involves supervising approximately 40 employees within a bulk terminal railcar unloading and ship loading operation. The role provides overall leadership, coordination, and performance evaluation while carrying out supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related tools.
  • Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to leadership as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capable of organizing and prioritizing daily tasks, managing large projects, and ensuring completion while maintaining confidentiality when required.
  • Able to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Understands how corporate policies, procedures, and practices apply to the material handling business and its stakeholders.
  • Skilled in establishing clear expectations within supervisor and employee relationships.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, motivation, communication, and interpersonal abilities, with experience working across diverse teams and varying levels of expertise.
  • Applies sound analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Works effectively in a team environment, follows direction, prioritizes schedules, and maintains attention to detail and compliance with work rules.
  • Willing to respond to after-hours callouts and participate in rotating weekend duty as needed, while adapting to changing conditions.
  • Able to identify, report, and address safety and environmental concerns proactively.

Certifications, Licenses, and Requirements

  • Maintains a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the company and its insurers; willing to operate personal or company vehicles as needed for job duties.
  • Must meet requirements for access to foreign trade zones, including background checks by the U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security, and obtain/maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Successfully completes required drug and alcohol testing, including hair follicle screening.
  • Holds or obtains required safety certifications mandated by customers and Kinder Morgan for work at all applicable facilities.
  • Able to pass additional background checks and testing required for refinery access.

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration.
  • Frequent exposure to elevated or hazardous work areas, electrical hazards, and high noise levels.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, and perform physical movements such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequently required to communicate effectively, including speaking and hearing.
  • Must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual capabilities including close vision, distance vision, color recognition, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
