Full Job Description
Job Title: Operations Engineer

Reporting directly to the Project Engineer, the Operations Engineer is responsible for tracking and supporting operations on the Eskay Creek project, ensuring efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement in all operational aspects. This role is essential for maintaining safe work practices, systematically tracking, analyzing, and interpreting operational data, and optimizing performance through close collaboration with multiple teams.

By working closely with Operations Supervisors, Superintendents, and Technical Services personnel, the Operations Engineer will develop strategies to improve productivity, streamline workflows, and enhance overall project execution.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure that safe work practices are built into and adhered to in all mine and heavy civil operations activities.
  • Verify all quantity tracking with the Technical Services team, ensuring proper material tracking and compliance with permit conditions.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Compile, track, analyze, and monitor all operations cost and productivity data.
  • Communicate daily cost, productivity, KPIs, and schedule data to the site team.
  • Enter and vet all data, providing daily, weekly, and monthly updates on volumes, construction progress, earned value, and costs to the Project Controls team.
  • Upload LEM, load counts, and cost data into tracking databases.
  • Act as the site owner for all operational data, conducting regular quality checks to ensure data integrity.
  • Compile all site data and develop daily and weekly site reports.
  • Act as the overall owner and responsible party for site reporting.

Operational Optimization and Support

  • Work directly with Operations Supervisors and Superintendents to analyze operational data, identify improvements, and develop robust execution plans.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Mobile Maintenance teams to ensure proper tracking of equipment performance and personnel hours for accurate cost coding.
  • Provide operational inputs for forecasting, planning, and scheduling.

Technical Support and Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Technical Services team to plan workfronts, schedule activities, and ensure resource allocation.
  • Support the Technical Services team with tracking of drill and blast metrics, survey requests, volume reconciliation, and ML/ARD data.
  • Assist with the implementation and operation of Fleet Management systems and HPGPS equipment.

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction, or Mining Engineering, or other related discipline.

Experience / Skills

  • A Minimum of 3-4 years of mining and/or heavy civil construction experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous experience with fleet dispatch/management systems.
  • Previous experience managing HPGPS equipment.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with experience in greenfield or brownfield start-up projects considered an asset.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to support reporting, and communication between various stakeholders.
  • Exhibits a high degree of responsibility and accountability.
  • Highly self-motivated and ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed).
  • Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CA$90,000 - CA$110,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
