This position reports to:

Director of Industrial Sales

The Business Development Manager will work closely with the largest players in the U.S. Machine Builder OEM (MOEM) and Electrical OEM / Panel Builder (EOEM) market segments, building long-term relationships with key stakeholders, securing ABB Installation Products (ELIP) solutions as the preferred choice, and helping drive profitable growth across the business. In this role, the Business Development Manager will spend a considerable amount of time visiting machine builders, UL 508A panel builders, industrial OEMs, engineering teams, and other key decision makers to understand customer applications, identify opportunities for specification and standardization, and promote ABB Installation Products solutions.

The successful candidate will ensure the execution of the defined market plan, reporting to and maintaining close collaboration with the Market Development Manager. This role is responsible for supporting ABB Installation Products' growth strategy by increasing specification activity, strengthening customer relationships, expanding standardization opportunities, and driving adoption of ABB Installation Products solutions within machine designs and industrial control panel applications.

This role is open to remote candidates located within the territory. #LI-Remote

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of Machine Builder OEM and Electrical OEM / Panel Builder customer needs, positioning ABB Installation Products solutions to drive specification, standardization, and market share growth.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with machine builders, UL 508A panel builders, engineering teams, system integrators, and other key stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor and identifying new business opportunities.

  • Drive design-in, specification, and standardization activities across customer machine platforms and control panel designs to expand ABB Installation Products adoption.

  • Gather and analyze market intelligence, customer feedback, industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging technologies, providing actionable insights to support growth initiatives, product development, and marketing strategies.

  • Deliver technical support, product training, demonstrations, and educational programs to customers, channel partners, and ABB sales teams, highlighting the technical and application advantages of ABB solutions.

  • Collaborate with Market Development, Sales, Product Management, and distribution partners to execute commercial strategies, support key account planning, and advance business development opportunities.

  • Achieve sales growth, specification, and business development objectives within the Machine OEM and Electrical OEM market segments through execution of the defined go-to-market strategy.

Your required qualifications:

  • BS/BA in business, marketing, engineering, or related fields required.

  • 5+ years of experience in technical specification/product marketing in the electrical industry, preferably in the Transportation & Industrial OEM markets.

  • A self-driven, results-oriented professional with strong business acumen.

  • Drive high standards for individual, team, and organizational accomplishment; tenaciously working to meet or exceed challenging goals; deriving satisfaction from goal achievement to continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage assigned workload.

  • Highly collaborative individual with ability to influence others and build strong professional relationships.

  • Ability to work in a complex, matrixed structure where cooperation is gained through influence.

  • Track record of new customer/business development. Experience with strong customer relations via specification, visits, training, etc.

  • Ability to develop an understanding of the product portfolio and how it is applied to the market segment, in order to provide value-added solutions.

  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Candidate must be willing to travel ~ 50% of the time.

  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the United States.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $100,500 and $160,800 annually and is bonus eligible.
