Responsibilities:

 

Responsible for the evaluation, treatment, progression, and discharge planning of physician referred patients throughout the hospital for occupational therapy services.

 

Performs patient assessment prior to initiation or renewal of therapy

 

  • Obtains a medical history, reason for therapy, prior level of function, complications, precautions, critical behavior/mentation.
  • Writes goals in functional or behavioral terms which include time frames.
  • Establishes treatment plans on the results of assessment.
  • Observes and documents patient response to treatment.
  • Begins patient/family education at time of assessment.
  • Documents clearly on patient record awareness of age specific needs and their impact on patient assessment.
  • Includes the patient in decision-making process regarding treatment program.
 

Provides care to the patient

 

  • Demonstrates practice consistent with the American Occupational Therapy Association
  • Maintains patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the age-specific needs of the patient and designs the treatment plan based on human growth development.
  • Explains every aspect of the written development plan of care before initiating treatment.
  • Contacts physician when there is a question concerning the prescribed patient orders.
  • Adapts conventional occupational therapy techniques to meet the needs of the patient unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive line of communication with mutual respect for and trust with each patient.
  • Documents all treatments to include patient response.
 

Responsible for preparation and submitting of department/facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records

 

  • Prepares and submits written evaluation reports. 
  • Prepares and submits written discharge summary reports when necessary.
  • Accurately writes progress note in patient chart.
  • Accurately submits procedure charges on a daily basis.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree/ Master’s preferred in accredited program in Occupational Therapy. 
  • Licensed in New York State as an OTR (Occupational Therapist Registered).
  • Inpatient/Acute experience required
  • 3 years of acute experience, preferred.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to staff members, management peers, hospital administration..
  • Knowledge of all equipment used in the rehabilitation of physically impaired patients.
  • Prior EPIC experience preferred
  • BLS through American Heart Association
Posted Salary RangeUSD $45.96 - USD $57.50 /Hr.
