Job Description

Responsible for the daily operations, staff management, and quality of patient care within the pre-operative assessment (PAT) area. This position balances both clinical and administrative duties to ensure a seamless and safe patient journey prior to surgery or a medical procedure.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily activities of the pre-procedure center, including patient flow, scheduling, and resource allocation (staffing, supplies, equipment).
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, advanced practice providers and clinical support staff. This includes managing schedules, addressing performance issues, and fostering professional growth.
  • Ensure the highest quality of patient care is delivered. This involves monitoring clinical practice standards, reviewing patient records for completeness, and ensuring that all necessary pre-op testing (e.g., blood work, ECG, X-rays) is performed and documented.
  • Ensure all operations adhere to internal policies, as well as external regulatory guidelines from bodies like the Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, implement evidence-based practices, and monitor patient outcomes to minimize risk and prevent complications or delays.
  • Oversee the process of educating patients and their families about upcoming procedures, what to expect, and post-operative instructions to reduce anxiety and ensure readiness for surgery.
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians (especially surgeons and anesthesiologists), and other department managers to ensure a multidisciplinary and coordinated approach to patient care.
  • Participate in budget preparation, monitor expenses, and manage resources efficiently to meet financial goals without compromising care quality.


Qualifications

Education
  • Completion of an Approved NP/MSN program.

Experience
  • Clinical nursing experience, preferably in a pre-operative, peri-operative, or ambulatory surgery center setting, with prior experience in a leadership or management role.

Certificates
  • Nurse Practitioner National Certification, ACLS and BLS

Licenses
  • Valid license by the Board of medical Examiner, State of New Jersey. Credentialing, Department of Surgery, Privileges determined by the department chair.
