Job Summary
The Nuclear Performance Assessor is responsible for evaluating overall station performance by independently assessing the overall organization to identify problem areas where the station is not meeting targets for excellence. This position reports to the Senior Director, Fleet Performance Assessment who reports directly to the Vice President, Nuclear Support. The Performance Assessor function requires an experienced senior nuclear manager (or managers, if augmented) with broad expertise and the ability to critically evaluate functional and cross-functional areas. The scope of the function is to identify shortfalls in organizational performance through monitoring and intrusive oversight.
The Performance Assessment function provides critical input regarding organizational weaknesses to corporate leaders up through the VISTRA CEO, CNO, and CNOO. Onsite, the Performance Assessor(s) provides direct feedback to senior station leaders at the director level. With the oversight of the Senior Director, Fleet Performance Assessment and Site Director of Organizational Effectiveness, the Performance Assessor has the authority to escalate issues that are not being adequately resolved to the department managers and directors; in other cases, escalation can be to the Plant Manager or Site Vice President to ensure effective and timely actions are being taken.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities
• Execution of the Performance Assessment function to improve site performance.
• Review performance of functional and cross-functional areas based on priority and performance. Includes meeting with Performance Improvement and NOS personnel for insights, observing in-plant activities, attending key meetings, interviewing leaders and workers, and other activities to get perspective on performance.
• Assess site performance against industry performance excellence, including 19-003 Staying on Top, IER 21-4 Improving Plant Reliability, Leadership and Team Excellence, and other Tier 1 documents for Training, Risk Management, OE Excellence.
• Meet with the Senior Director, Fleet Performance Assessment weekly and meet with the Site Director of Organizational Effectiveness on a nominal daily basis to debrief developing issues and observations. Debrief directors real time on identified shortfalls and developing gaps, including any insights for improving performance and addressing issues.
• Generate reports and presentations per requirements: monthly roll up observations, quarterly performance reports for MRM, appropriate engagements, and input to the Nuclear Oversight Committee and the independent Operations Review Committee. Reports are for review at the highest levels of the organization through the CNOO, CNO, and CEO.
• When adequate progress is not made to resolve issues, use the elevation/escalation process to raise the level of ownership of issues. Escalation may be to the Director, Plant Manager, or Site Vice President based on significance of the issue.
• External interface with INPO, NRC.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director, Fleet Performance Assessment.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
• Bachelor's degree, BS in technical discipline is preferred or 6 years of service in nuclear power in various disciplines. A technical degree may be used to supplement years of experience.
• A minimum of two years professional related experience at 1st level management.
• The ideal candidate will have a broad, varied background in nuclear power with experience in three or more departments.
• The candidate should be on the Ready Now or Ready 1-2 years for a Senior Manager position.
• A Senior Reactor Operator License or Management Certification (SRO) is desired.
