Full Job Description
Salary range is $100,000 to $115,000 per year

Are you a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, solving problems, developing staff, and building strong financial processes? Do you want your work to have a meaningful impact beyond the numbers.

Easterseals Florida is seeking an experienced Controller to join our leadership team and help oversee the financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization serving individuals, families, and communities across Florida. With approximately $50 million in annual revenue, multiple funding sources, government contracts, grants, and over 50 program and departmental budgets, this role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact while leading a dedicated accounting team.

This position is ideal for a leader who can balance strategy with execution. We are looking for someone who is comfortable reviewing complex accounting transactions, resolving reconciliation issues, leading audits, strengthening internal controls, coaching staff, and partnering closely with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

This is not a role where you simply review the work of others. We are seeking a Controller who is willing to dive into the details when needed, help solve challenges, improve processes, and lead by example while building a high performing accounting function.

What You'll Do

Own the Financial Close & Reporting Process
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles with precision and discipline
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial schedules
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity and timely resolution of outstanding items
  • Deliver accurate, complete, and audit-ready financial statements
  • Identify and resolve variances, anomalies, and key estimates before CFO review

Drive Financial Insight & Strategy
  • Prepare and analyze budget-to-actuals, trends, and financial performance
  • Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and operational trends-and recommend actions
  • Support reporting to executive leadership, Finance Committee, and Board
  • Provide financial analysis on programs, grants, and strategic initiatives

Ensure Audit Readiness & Compliance
  • Lead external audits (financial, Single Audit, 403(b), etc.)
  • Serve as the primary liaison with auditors
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit standards, and grant requirements
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and process improvements

Oversee Cash & Financial Health
  • Monitor cash flow, projections, and liquidity
  • Oversee receivables, deferred revenue, and key balance sheet accounts
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure accurate revenue recognition and reporting

Lead & Develop a High-Performing Team
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff
  • Set clear performance expectations and drive accountability
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a trusted financial resource across the organization

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • Ability to meet our approved driver qualifications in order to drive your personal vehicle, as required, for business needs (minimum age of 21 and good driving history
