Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Neurosurgery Nurse at Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center, you will take a leadership role in assessing and managing patient and family health needs for acutely ill adult populations within our dynamic Neurosurgery department. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive nursing care plans, ensuring evidence-based, safe, and effective patient outcomes. Barrow Neurological Institute is an international leader in the treatment, research, and education of brain and spinal diseases, conditions, and injuries. Led by Barrow President and CEO Michael T. Lawton, MD, one of the world’s top neurosurgeons, the Institute is one of the busiest centers for neurology and neurosurgery in the United States. Because of our high volume, our physicians and clinicians are familiar with the rarest and most challenging conditions.

Every day you will provide hands-on professional nursing care, prioritizing patient activities while recognizing and adapting to changes in their condition using clinical best practices. You will serve as a patient advocate, leveraging holistic care practices and utilizing communication tools like SBAR to effectively liaise with physicians and other providers. Your daily responsibilities will also include meticulous documentation, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and actively participating in team collaboration to achieve superior patient care.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, ethical accountability, and a proactive approach to multidisciplinary collaboration during minimally invasive spine surgery, microscopic techniques, and robotic spine surgery. Your ability to manage workload, analyze data, and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives, while supporting the functional and developmental needs of diverse patient age groups, is essential for excellence in this rewarding Perioperative nursing position.
