POSITION SUMMARY:

The Junior Network Engineer is responsible for supporting the reliability, availability and security of the company network systems. The Junior Network Engineer works along with the Senior Network Engineer and other IT groups to design, deploy, and maintain complex enterprise networks consisting of switches, routers, firewalls, various wireless devices, and their requisite management, logging, and security software.

SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - 96,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Must live the Vigor Values every day
• Under oversight of Technical Services Manager and with guidance from the Sr. Network Engineer plans, installs, configures, supports, and troubleshoots network hardware and software (ex: Cisco, Ruckus).
• Configure and support Cisco NGFW Firewalls (FTDs).
• Install, support and maintain company wired network routers and switches (primarily Cisco)
• Install, support, and maintain company wireless network (Ruckus, Ubiquiti, and Cisco).
• Assists with architecting, planning, and installation of new Company locations.
• Evaluate, monitor and troubleshoot networking issue and optimize performance.
• Review traffic and access logs/reports for anomalous behavior.
• Ensure security of company networks by implementing security best practices and recommending secure methods of integrating without vendors, partners, and customers.
• Assists with planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting all company data lines (ENS, Internet).
• Installs, configures, and maintains corporate firewalls rules, VLAN configuration, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
• Configures and supports VPN access to company systems.
• Responsible for vendor communication and project management as relating to build-outs, networking/cabling engagements, network hardware orders, and data line billing/installation.
• Responsible for installation of wireless connectivity, internet, and security systems in customer workspaces and on customer vessels.

JOB SCOPE:

The Junior Network Engineer operates under supervision of the Technical Services Manager.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

The individual communicate both verbally and written with IT team members, internal customers, and external customers. The incumbent provides direction to cabling/networking subcontractors and vendors in the oversight of their work. He/she provides regular verbal and written status reports to manager, other IT groups, and internal/external customers.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to problem solve, multi-task, prioritize duties and assignments
• Knowledge of logical design models (Spanning tree, VTP, VLANs, and physical cabling)
• Knowledge of network control, management and security protocols including Cisco ISE
• Knowledge of IP communication and routing
• Advanced knowledge of network requirements to support storage (SAN) network environments
• Ability to follow written formats and instructions with accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent written communication, report writing, and presentation skills
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills to include working with customers, employees, management, and other IT personnel
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to understand and continually research emerging technology trends in network technology and vulnerabilities and make effective recommendations
• Detail oriented, responsible, and conscientious
• Ability to move fast and change directions quickly

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience working directly with Federal government customers (preferred)
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance if needed
• Ability to do local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 30% of the time with notice

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent or 3 years related technical experience (required)
• Minimum 3 years in working with networking technology in an enterprise environment

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

• Cisco CCNA Certification (preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The individual may be required to be in production areas in yard and onboard ships. Must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 25 pounds. Good finger, hand and wrist dexterity required for extensive computer operations. The person must have good hand-eye coordination and may spend extended time sitting in front of a computer terminal. May be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work.
