Job Overview:

FMC Owned and Tolling manufacturing is a significant and strategic part of FMC's supply chain. The NA Improvement Engineer will use their technical capabilities to enable continued business growth and ensure the agility required to meet the demands of a dynamic market. As the primary, technical and continuous improvement support of the NA FMC Formulation & Packaging Network (FMC and Tollers), the NA Improvement Engineer will provide technical expertise including continuous improvement, new product introduction, quality management, capital project execution, manufacturing support, sustainability efforts, and overall process improvements while driving the safety culture of the FMC organization in daily activities. The NA Improvement Engineer will lead strategically, proactively, and purposefully to implement solutions which continually improve our safe, sustainable, and reliable formulation & packaging processes. This position is based in Philadelphia and reports to the NA Formulations and Packaging Technical Center Manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead process and product Management of Change for identified manufacturing processes
  • Assessment of Manufacturing site capabilities for the ability to manufacture potential new or re-sited products
  • Work cooperatively with the R&D and Manufacturing organization to design safe, efficient commercial manufacturing processes for new products
  • Execute Design and develop product launch test protocols and reports with R&D.
  • On-site support of the commissioning of production units or new product introductions during trial production, optimization and validation, as needed. Help establish standard production rates & efficiencies which can be used for performance monitoring
  • Quality Assurance of formulated products


Process Technology, Process Improvement and Capital Project Development:
  • Support Process safety Management for identified processes and lead Process safety Information management.
  • Leverage process knowledge and data to research and provide recommendations for process technology
  • Develop and execute test protocols to determine the viability of a new technology
  • Provide detailed process design, equipment selection & sizing, specify control logic & design, piping & utility requirements and coordinate the preparation of construction packages for assigned projects
  • Implement approved capital projects in coordination with the Third-Party personnel
  • Ensure that capital projects compliance with Responsible Care, FMC related safety programs and local, state and Federal regulations. Ensure protection from exposure to any chemical product while in use, storage and transportation.
  • Support plant Operations in identifying improvement opportunities through review of performance data


Manufacturing Support:
  • Support operations through review of performance data to develop long-term improvement plans
  • Develop necessary trial plans and report on optimization ideas, data analysis and quality control
  • Support Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for significant safety, quality, or manufacturing failures
  • Support periodic site audits for compliance with applicable regulations and FMC standards
  • Management and tracking of ongoing qualification efforts from initial testing and assessment by the R&D organization through production commercial scale trials.
  • Develop project execution plans to support given projects
  • Other tasks as assigned


Required Education:
  • BS in Chemical Engineering or related field required


Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a chemical or related environment with process or scale-up experience
  • Knowledge of equipment design, scale-up procedures, troubleshooting and project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and Process Safety Management
  • Demonstrated commitment to Personal Safety & Environmental issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information with global internal and external partners
  • General understanding of business processes and economic factors affecting the business
  • Strategic agility with foresight and the ability to create alternate plans
  • Experience presenting at both informal and formal training settings
  • Effective team building skills across interdisciplinary teams with an operating style that fosters open dialogue, creates a strong sense of team, inspires, and motivates others to achieve project goals
  • Experience applying data-based decision making, drive for results drive, leadership action orientated
  • Knowledge of quality assurance programs or statistical quality control
  • Lean six sigma certification a plus
