Full Job Description

The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Specialist will support research and development efforts for Counter-Unmanned Systems (C-UxS) programs. This individual will develop, execute, and analyze models and simulations to evaluate the performance, survivability, and effectiveness of unmanned systems operating in challenging and complex operational environments. The role involves close collaboration with systems engineers, scientists, and test personnel to inform design decisions, support test planning, and provide analytical insight throughout the research and development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, verify, and validate models and simulations representing unmanned system platforms, subsystems, and operational environments.
  • Design and execute simulation studies to assess system performance, survivability, autonomy behaviors, and mission effectiveness under varying operational scenarios.
  • Support trade studies and technical risk assessments by providing modeling-based analysis to inform design and acquisition decisions.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and test personnel to align modeling efforts with test and evaluation (T&E) planning, and to correlate simulation results with live test data.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation output, preparing clear technical reports, briefings, and visualizations to communicate findings to engineering staff and government stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance simulation tools, frameworks, and databases used across the program, ensuring configuration control and repeatability of models.
  • Support development of modeling and simulation plans, verification and validation (V&V) documentation, and accreditation packages as required.
  • Identify data, tool, or resource gaps affecting modeling fidelity, and recommend solutions or improvements.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and program reviews, presenting modeling and simulation results as needed.
  • Support risk identification related to modeling assumptions, data quality, or schedule, and communicate findings to the program manager and technical leads.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant government M&S standards, data handling requirements, and security protocols.
  • Interpret military mission threads and extract key attributes to be modeled
  • Interpret system technical documentation and extract key attributes to be modeled
  • Develop digital representations of system attributes and system behaviors
