Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. Your Impact- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and monitoring of the distributed control systems (DCS) that comprise the neural network of the ore processing operational environment.
- Work autonomously to optimize production KPIs and efficiencies by communicating directly with Metallurgy and their supervisor(s).
- Demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised; troubleshoot problems effectively and accurately; and prioritize communicating solutions before communicating problems.
- Demonstrate sound operational logic in their daily decision making; using data and applicable operational best practices to inform their changes.
- Directly liaise with Process Control Engineers and Instrument and Controls (I/C) technicians to resolve poorly performing loops, instrumentation feedback issues, or any other controls systems variables that are underperforming.
- Enter work notifications for deficiencies.
- Directly engage with operations personnel across the entire value chain when performance KPIs are underperforming; coaching accountable parties on methods to improve their performance or assisting in troubleshooting as required.
- Create management of change requests (MoC) for the requisition of new controls; performance improvement ideas; or upgraded instruments that would improve operational performance or stability.
- Respond to emergency calls and broadcast emergency notifications to the relevant worker body.
As Part of the Team- To support the cross-training and operational development of Grinding Operator trainees, the operator is expected to demonstrate strict adherence to all policies and procedures to ensure the transfer of quality, hands-on practical knowledge while acting as an Operator Trainer.
- This role, along with all operational roles, is required to assist elsewhere as needed, with, or without prior notification, when upset conditions or unplanned downtime occur on their circuit. Personnel occupying this position may be required to perform support functions in other areas, respond to cleanup requests, or backfill absent operators where competencies allow.
- During maintenance shutdowns, this role is required to perform assigned duties that either support or supplement maintenance activities, as directed by their supervisor.
- Mentoring trainees as required to support succession planning objectives.
Prerequisites- The CRO is expected to be certified, having completed all prerequisite training and achieved acceptable passing scores prior to being selected as an Operator Trainer.
- Occasionally operate equipment such as overhead crane, skid steer, loader, telehandler, mini excavator, and remote-controller breaker when trained and authorized.
- Note: CRO must be certified as an Operator Trainer and have at least one year of experience before training premiums can be applied (per CBA).
- 100% completion of assigned training (CORE + VOCs + Assessments) at minimum passing scores prior to achieving new hourly rate, or progression beyond the area.
Work Environment- Maintain an orderly work area - seeking to declutter the control room and clean as required.
- Perform regular, proactive hazard identification in your areas of accountability - addressing identified hazards autonomously where applicable, and escalating when required.
- Adhere to all site safety protocols including:
- Lockout/tagout
- Confined space entry
- PPE and radio communication standards
- Participate in daily Prestart Meetings, FLHAs.
- Perform frequent and consistent housekeeping duties to uplift or maintain Operational Excellence standards, without prompt.
This is a Fly-in, Fly-out position at our Red Chris Mine, operating on a 14x14 schedule with alternating day / night shifts.
The expected hourly rate for this role is CA$54.98. This rate is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
