Job Title: Middle Mile Operations

Location: Fontana, CA or City of Industry, CA

Annual Salary Range: $70,304 - $90,000 + Annual Bonus

JD Logistics (US) Inc. is seeking an experienced Middle Mile Operations to lead and optimize our middle mile transportation operations. This role is responsible for managing end-to-end transportation processes across Drayage, FTL/LTL linehaul, and freight forwarding operations, overseeing a fleet of company-owned vehicles and an external carrier network.

What You'll Do

  • Transportation Planning & Strategy: Develop and execute transportation strategies aligned with corporate objectives, business growth, and market trends for Drayage, Middle Mile (FTL/LTL), and freight operations.
  • Optimize end-to-end linehaul processes including port container drayage, warehouse-to-warehouse trunk routes, cargo consolidation/sorting, and final mile coordination.
  • Design and refine route networks to maximize load efficiency, minimize empty miles and container returns, and reduce per-unit transportation costs.
  • Lead TMS (Transportation Management System) implementation and process digitization initiatives to enhance planning accuracy and operational visibility.
  • Carrier & Fleet Management: Manage and optimize the company-owned vehicle fleet while strategically supplementing capacity through external carrier partnerships.
  • Source, evaluate, and onboard qualified carriers; negotiate competitive rates and service agreements through structured RFP/RFQ processes.
  • Establish and maintain carrier performance scorecards covering on-time delivery, cargo safety, cost efficiency, and compliance metrics.
  • Monitor DOT/FMCSA compliance requirements for both internal fleet and contracted carriers; ensure all safety and regulatory standards are met.
  • Operations Monitoring & Cost Control: Monitor real-time transportation KPIs including cost per shipment, on-time rate, load factor, profit/loss by lane, and fleet utilization.
  • Build risk alert frameworks and escalation protocols to proactively identify and resolve operational anomalies (delays, capacity shortages, damage claims).
  • Analyze operational data to identify cost-saving opportunities; develop and execute annual financial operating plans with clear P&L accountability.
  • Prepare regular operations reports and executive dashboards; present performance insights and improvement recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Client Service & Cross-functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary transportation operations contact for key accounts, managing SLA compliance, service reviews, and escalation resolution.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Warehouse Operations, Customs Brokerage, and Customer Service teams to ensure seamless end-to-end supply chain execution.
  • Manage complaint/claims resolution processes; drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to continuously improve client satisfaction.
  • Support RFP response development and client presentations with operational data, capacity planning, and competitive pricing insights.


About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in transportation/logistics operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Bilingual fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English (spoken and written) is required for coordination with HQ and cross-border operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing carrier relationships, rate negotiations, and RFP/RFQ processes.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute annual financial/operating plans with P&L oversight.
  • Proficiency with TMS platforms, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel at advanced level), and data analysis/reporting tools.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a track record of driving process improvement.


Preferred but not essential for this role:

  • Hands on dispatcher experience
  • Experience with port operations and container drayage at LA/LB ports.
  • Background in e-commerce logistics, 3PL/4PL operations, or working with major retail/e-commerce accounts (Amazon, Wayfair, etc.).
  • Experience with TMS implementation or transportation digitization projects.
  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and transportation compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools for operational analytics.
