Responsibilities
River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility, will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration.
We are currently seeking a forward thinking and compassionate NURSE MANAGER to be part of our Nursing Team. The Nurse Manger is responsible for ensuring coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health practice and hospital policy, goals and objectives. This position assists in contributing to the hospital's philosophy, objectives, educational and Performance & Improvement efforts, while providing supervision of House Supervisors, RN's and MHTs. This position will monitor staffing needs on assigned shifts. This position is responsible for assisting the CNO/ACNO in evaluating, reviewing, designing and implementing hospital training events with respect to all RN/MHT staff required training. Also provides, on as-needed basis, patient nursing assessments. Participates in Treatment Team meetings as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required or equivalent combination of education and experience in nursing management; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of one (5) years of experience progressive nursing leadership experience. Experience in staff education and education concepts, practices and procedures and 24 hour shift staffing experience.
Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the California State Board of Nursing
Additional Requirements: Thorough knowledge of THE JOINT COMMISSION, HCFA, OSHA requirements, and state and federal regulatory requirements. CPR certification within 30 days of employment and successful completion of training in Management of Assaultive Behavior (CPI) Crisis Prevention Intervention and Service Excellence Training within 90 days of employment.

Leadership
Ensure that all staff members deliver care in accordance with the Standards of Care and Practice. Implement the unit policies and procedures and act as a resource to the staff. Responsible for unit compliance with THE JOINT COMMISSION, OSHA, state and regulatory standards and patient rights standards. Evaluate program effectiveness and formulates plans for improvement. Develop staffing schedules for Full Time Staff in accordance with patient needs Provide education, orientation and in-services for the program staff when deficits in clinical knowledge are identifiedCreate, post and maintain Department of Nursing Master Schedule.
Treatment Planning
Prioritize and formulate a plan of care based on patient assessment and according to policy. Assist in the development of a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives and interventions defining actions unique to each patient's needs. Update and revise the plan as goals/objectives are met or when the patient's condition changes. Document the treatment plan, nursing interventions and the patient's response to the intervention. Assign and direct personnel in the implementation of the nursing care plans and verifies the patient's care through direct observation and consistent review of the chart.
Teaching
Provide education to patients and families based on their identified needs and limitations, such as, communication, interpersonal and social skills as well as basic principles of physical health. Promote learning experiences and provide educational materials to patients and their families. Provide and document discharge instructions including food and drug interactions, diets and activities as appropriate. Evaluate and document the effectiveness of all patient teaching. Provide opportunities for patients and families to question, discuss and explore their feelings about prescribed therapies/interventions/diagnosis.
Milieu
Assure patients are adequately oriented to the unit. Monitor unit activity and encourages patient participation. Prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care to patients during hospitalization. Provide structure and maintain a therapeutic environment in collaboration with the patient and other health care providers. Consistently utilize universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines. Utilize self as a role model to promote health communication.
Intervention
Employ principles of communication, interviewing techniques, and problem solving and crisis intervention when performing psychotherapeutic interventions. Interventions are based on knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures, as well as the plan of care. Safely and accurately administer medication to patients. Transcribe and carry out treatment orders accurately. Use appropriate interventions in psychiatric and medical emergencies.
