Job DescriptionBAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) is looking for an experienced technical manager to join the Military Space TDO team. In this role you will support the Military Space New Business and P&L groups in their ability to architect capability-based solutions that provide unique mission utility at the speed of new space. The role requires technical leadership and decision-making skills to guide fieldable implementation architectures that balance schedule, cost and technical priorities. You will also work closely with the Military Space Strategic Development (SD) group in defining trends and capabilities that will enable more competitive and implementable architectural solutions that enable compelling offers to drive business winning.
The Military Space Strategic Business Unit delivers innovative space systems that drive mission success and provide resilient and persistent mission-level solutions to deter threats and counter emerging capabilities for the Department of War.
What You'll Do:
- Provide technical leadership and direction regarding implementation architectures for segments, elements, sub-systems and components, and capability development needed to ensure we continue to remain competitive and can respond to Military Space business needs.
- Support capture managers with technical leadership for Military Space and cross-Aerospace & Mission Systems (AMS) pursuits, proposals and studies across various phases, which may include tasks such as: Identifying fieldable capabilities on various horizon timelines, working with an interdisciplinary team and customer interfacing to include briefings.
- Provide technical leadership for IRAD/CRAD hardware and software developments to include through on-orbit demonstration(s)
- Assess market conditions, trends, architectures and technologies gaps that would have enabled on-going proposals and pursuits and generate demand signal to SD for consideration in the prioritization of resources and IRAD/CRAD
- Work with the SD team to inform and review Military Space IRAD strategies and needs for all mission areas and monitor IRAD progress for Military Space.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Short-Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
Required Skills and Education- BS/BA in related field plus 12 years or more related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI Polygraph.
- Experience with program bid and proposal formulation, win strategies, and technical bid baseline development
- Experience with Systems Engineering, mission architecture concepts to include trade studies
- Experience with program execution and customer relations
- Experience with delivering flight systems, hardware and/or software
- Experience with IRAD strategies and executing IRAD programs
- Experience with government customers and architectural implementations of segments, elements, sub-systems and components
- Experience negotiating commonality in technical approaches across funding programs for reuse and architecture advancement
- Ability to coordinate activities of a team, predict and meet schedules, resolve disconnects.
- Working knowledge of space systems including segments, elements, sub-systems and components
- Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to understand the customer's needs and provide clear communication of proposed solutions to both management and the customer.
