Job Description

Provide support to the Software & Ground Systems (SGS) department in areas that include department operations, functional leadership, new business pursuits and department staffing. This position is 80% indirect/20% direct and reports to the Operations Manager of SGS.

What You'll Do:
  • Support department operations including staffing, hiring, resource allocation, and talent management. May also include process improvement initiatives, strategic department planning, cross-discipline coordination, department functional process implementation, and other strategic initiatives as defined by the director.
  • Provide support to new business pursuits including but not limited to developing proposal responses, presenting solutions in writing or orally, building relationships with customers and stakeholders, analyzing customer needs, and identifying business opportunities.
  • Provide engineering support as needed including participating in failure review boards, after action reviews, and Lifecycle Management reviews,
  • Ensure that all business is conducted with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations, as well as company policies and directives.
  • Contribute to SGS strategic and operational planning.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Short Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.

Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 10 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cost and schedule baselines.
  • Ability to self-start, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to apply sound leadership and management principles to an organization of high performing software and systems engineers.
  • Relevant work experience with end-to-end software development practices and processes including Agile methodologies.
  • Ability to operate at the system level and interface to all engineering disciplines and organizations.
  • Relevant work experience demonstrating knowledge of software engineering with DoD, intel community, and/or NASA customers.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and interpersonal skills in relevant business environments.
  • Influencing, communication and team skills will be critical to successful execution of the duties of the position.
  • Prior experience working in and with controlled, classified security environments.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Prior engineering functional management experience.
  • Degree in Software, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Knowledge of ground hardware utilized in support of on-orbit satellite missions.
  • Certified Control Account Manager (CAM) experience.
