Logistics Manager - Lansing, MI

The Opportunity:

The Shipping, Logistics & Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading all outbound logistics, warehouse operations, and inventory management to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of finished goods and materials. This role oversees shipping, receiving (if applicable), and warehouse teams while driving operational excellence, service performance, and continuous improvement across the supply chain.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock:

Operations Leadership

  • Lead daily shipping, logistics, and warehouse operations to meet customer delivery, quality, and cost objectives
  • Ensure on-time, accurate shipment of finished goods in alignment with production schedules
  • Oversee dock scheduling, carrier coordination, and load planning
  • Drive standard work, process discipline, and accountability across all shifts


People Leadership & Development

  • Direct, coach, and develop and lead hourly team members
  • Build a high-performance, safety-first culture with strong engagement and accountability
  • Manage scheduling, staffing, and labor planning to meet business needs
  • Partner with HR on hiring, development, performance management, and employee relations


Inventory & Warehouse Management

  • Ensure accurate inventory control, cycle counts, and reconciliation processes
  • Optimize warehouse layout, space utilization, and material flow
  • Maintain product integrity and proper storage conditions
  • Partner with production and planning teams to ensure seamless material flow


Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture; ensure compliance with all OSHA and company safety policies
  • Maintain compliance with transportation, shipping, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions


Customer & Service Excellence

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through accurate and timely shipments
  • Partner with customer service and transportation teams to resolve issues proactively
  • Monitor and improve key service metrics (OTIF, dock-to-stock, order accuracy)


Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements in logistics efficiency, cost control, and service levels
  • Leverage Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to drive operational improvements
  • Analyze KPIs and develop action plans to improve performance


What You Need to Succeed:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5-10+ years of progressive leadership experience in warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing operations
  • Prior experience leading supervisors and hourly teams in a production environment required


Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Deep understanding of warehouse operations, shipping, and transportation logistics
  • Experience with inventory management systems (ERP/WMS)
  • Data-driven decision maker with strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and cost control
  • Effective communicator across all levels of the organization


Preferred

  • Experience in corrugated packaging or high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification or experience
  • APICS certification (CPIM/CSCP) - preferred but not required
