The Role
Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
Candidate shall be responsible for leading and managing the Marine/HVAC Engineering 3-D/2-D Design. Responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to individual coordinator utilizing management guidelines, general policies. Candidate shall provide direction on day-to-day activities, monitoring progress, and ensure all tasking involving the HVAC design group is driven to a successful completion. Candidate shall review work for adequacy of meeting stated objectives and to ensure timely delivery of quality design products. Maintain weekly status/progress reports for respective contracts. Management and administrative responsibilities are HII-Ingalls Programs as well as any new developmental programs. Candidate shall also establish and manage budgets and schedules; select, train, evaluate, counsel and discipline personnel; ensure compliance with company policies and procedures as set forth in Command Media. Candidate will also be responsible for interfacing with vendors and Navy technical representatives. Some travel is required.
Must Have
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.
(Combination of education and experience in lieu of degree: High school diploma and 14 years or Associate's Degree and 10 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design or equivalent)
Nice to Have
This position requires full knowledge of HVAC Diagrams, Detail Design Drawings, and knowledge of the Ship Specifications related requirements. Candidate should also have knowledge of 3-D/2-D Ship Constructor, HVAC EMA's, Navisworks and ARAS. Some level of managerial or project leader experience is desired.
