The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is a public research university with its main campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It was founded in 1910 as Mississippi Normal College, and since then has grown into a comprehensive doctoral and research-driven institution with a proud history and an eye on the future. USM is home to more than 14,000 students from all 50 states and 71 countries around the world. The university offers more than 180 degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, including the state's only ocean engineering program. USM is also home to the renowned Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families, which provides support and resources to military-affiliated students and their families.
