ABOUT THE TEAMWe are looking for a
Metrology Engineer to define and improve the measurement systems that ensure the quality of the products we design and build. In this role you'll design, validate, and implement measurement methods, gages, and inspection strategies, and integrate metrology early with design, manufacturing, and quality. You'll work hands-on across contact and non-contact systems - CMMs, portable arms, 3D scanners, laser trackers, CT, and optical systems from manufacturers such as Hexagon, Zeiss, Keyence, and LK Metrology - to solve measurement problems, support root cause investigations, and provide the technical backbone for our Metrology Technicians and Specialists. Depending on experience, the scope of the role can range from supporting defined programs to independently owning the measurement strategy for complex assemblies.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Design, validate, and implement measurement methods, inspection programs, and gages for parts, assemblies, and processes.
- Interpret and apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5); develop inspection plans that reflect critical characteristics and design intent.
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and measurement system analysis (MSA / Gage R&R) to confirm capability and measurement confidence.
- Integrate metrology early with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to reduce risk and verify processes before they scale.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Metrology Technicians and Specialists on programming, methods, fixturing, and difficult measurements.
- Troubleshoot systemic measurement issues - determining why inspections fail or give inconsistent results - and design solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Support root cause investigations (RCCA), MRB, and incident management on metrology-related quality issues.
- Design and specify inspection gages, including Go/No-Go gages and automated inspection systems (vision, scans, etc.).
- Analyze measurement data using statistical methods and data-visualization tools, and report findings clearly to engineering and program stakeholders.
- Help ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO/IEC 17025) and contribute to calibration and gage management practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Engineering degree, or equivalent technical training and hands-on metrology experience.
- Working knowledge of dimensional metrology principles, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), and inspection methods.
- Experience with CMM and metrology software; PolyWorks preferred (PC-DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent acceptable).
- Experience with one or more measurement technologies - CMM, portable CMM, 3D scanning, laser tracker, CT, or optical systems.
- Familiarity with FAI and measurement system analysis (MSA / Gage R&R).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Good written and verbal communication skills across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience integrating metrology early in product development and supporting design reviews.
- Experience with automated inspection (vision/scan), digital-twin, or data-visualization methods.
- Experience with large-volume metrology (laser tracker, laser radar, large-format 3D scanning).
- Experience designing and building holding fixtures for CMMs.
- Experience with PolyWorks|DataLoop or similar metrology data management platforms.
- Familiarity with calibration system requirements such as ISO/IEC 17025.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter, NX, Jira, and manufacturing execution systems.
