Full Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Direct all metallurgical efforts to reduce cost of poor quality (rework, rejections, deviations, etc.) by employing root cause problem solving techniques.
Lead and direct testing functions, including operation of sample preparation equipment, fatigue testing equipment, microhardness testing, benchtop Brinell testing, sample mounting and polishing equipment, optical microscope, SEM, and others as needed.
Review material property requirements and provide heat treatment plans to meet required properties and provide technical expertise to continuously improve heat treat processing.
Manage / participate in order reviews and investigations to ensure that the metallurgical aspects of the customer purchase order are met.
Direct technical support for the Sales Department from customer inquiry through product shipment and conducting customer claim investigations including failure analysis when necessary.
Direct technical support to the Operations group in day-to-day operations.
Lead efforts in analyzing the disposition of internal non-conformances and mechanical test failures.
Manage development and/or improve policies and procedures to ensure compliance to customer requirements and maximize product profitability.
Responsible for leading improvements in the quality management system through on-going analysis / evaluation of systems and product non-conformances.
This position will be primarily stationed at our closed-die press facility in Sharon, PA but, the responsibilities of the position will require some travel between all facilities, as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science & Engineering
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft office programs
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work well with a team, while also working independently; self-motivated
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Willingness and ability to operate equipment and work in a hands-on manufacturing environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Steel forging experience
Experience in heat treatment of heavy section steel forgings
Experience with mechanical testing equipment and metallography
