Primary PurposeApplies specialized depth or breadth to independently solve complex quality challenges and identify innovative solutions. Leads functional initiatives or projects and secures adoption of improved quality approaches.
Provides metallurgical and welding engineering expertise to ensure the integrity, reliability, and compliance of materials, welding processes, and fabricated components. Supports design, manufacturing, quality, and failure analysis activities to meet safety, performance, and business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities- Architects end-to-end verification strategies combining functional, integration, and system tests.
- Designs performance and load tests and interprets results to predict field reliability.
- Implements measurement system analysis and capability studies for critical parameters.
- Introduces new test methods or tooling and develops business cases for adoption.
- Leads supplier quality improvements using audits and follow-through validation.
- Defines data models and dashboards for near-real-time quality monitoring.
- Standardizes defect taxonomies and reporting across teams.
- Facilitates go/no-go readiness reviews with balanced risk articulation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education- Requires a 4 year degree in a relevant engineering field.
Experience- Requires 8 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Required: Regulatory Compliance - Understanding of utility-specific regulations and standards to ensure all quality assurance processes meet legal and safety requirements.
- Required: Process Control and Optimization - Expertise in designing and implementing process control systems to maintain consistent quality and optimize utility operations.
- Required: Data Analysis and Interpretation - Proficiency in using statistical and analytical tools to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed decisions to improve processes.
- Required: Testing and Inspection Methods - Knowledge of advanced testing and inspection methods for utility infrastructure, ensuring early detection of defects and maintenance needs.
- Required: Risk Assessment and Management - Ability to assess and manage risks associated with utility operations, developing strategies to mitigate potential quality and safety issues.
- Required: Quality Improvement Techniques - Application of methodologies like Six Sigma and Lean to drive continuous improvement in utility service quality and operational efficiency.
- Required: Supplier Quality Management - Skill in collaborating with suppliers to resolve quality issues and drive improvements in equipment and materials used in utility operations.
- Required: Technical Report Writing - The creation of detailed and clear reports documenting technical findings, incidents, and resolutions, often including data analysis and recommendations.
- Required: Project Management - Expertise in managing quality assurance projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and meet quality objectives.
- Required: Stakeholder Engagement - Proficiency in communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to align on quality objectives and improvement initiatives.
Licenses and Certifications- Required: Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of California is required.
