Description

MEP Senior Project Manager

Location:St. Louis-based with local project travel or full-time traveler

Position Description:

The Senior MEP Manager is a senior project leadership role responsible for providing technical oversight and guidance to project teams in the planning and delivery of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility systems on complex industrial projects where reliability, schedule performance, and technical quality are critical. This role supports industrial projects across the mission-critical, food & beverage, and manufacturing markets. The Senior MEP Manager assists project teams in identifying, understanding, and managing the risk profile associated with MEP systems from early planning through commissioning, helping ensure systems are well-coordinated, properly sequenced, and delivered in alignment with project requirements.

Beyond project execution, this role serves as a technical resource for the organization. Coaching, mentoring, and educating project teams is an inherent responsibility, strengthening technical capability, improving risk awareness, and supporting consistent delivery of dependable, high-quality MEP systems.

This is a technical leadership role focused on collaboration and guidance. The Senior MEP Manager supports teams in proactively addressing risks, resolving technical challenges, and delivering complete, functional building systems.

Responsibilities

MEP Technical Leadership
  • Lead project teams in technical planning and execution of all MEP systems including process utilities, power distribution, controls, life safety, HVAC, plumbing, and specialty systems.
  • Translate design intent into executable field strategy aligned with schedule and operational constraints.
  • Identify system risks early (capacity, redundancy, sequencing, integration, commissioning).
  • Drive resolution of design gaps, constructability issues, and performance risks.

Pursuit, Preconstruction & Execution Planning
  • Develop preliminary MEP execution strategy including constructability, sequencing, system integration, and commissioning philosophy.
  • Evaluate early design for feasibility, system risk, and constructability; identify schedule drivers and long-lead procurement risks.
  • Identify key system and integration risks early (power, controls, process, utilities) and support development of the project risk register.
  • Support technical alignment with major MEP trade partners and contribute to a clear, executable delivery strategy prior to award.

Execution & Field Integration
  • Support project teams with the coordination across MEP trades, structural, civil, architectural, and process systems.
  • Help support the development of Project schedules to drive installation from mobilization through to start-up & commissioning.
  • Monitor and provide QA/QC support to field installation to meet quality, code, and performance standards.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts early to protect schedule and downstream system performance.
  • Lead recurring MEP execution and risk coordination meetings as necessary to support project teams.

Commissioning & Operational Readiness
  • Help support the development of commissioning programming within organization.
  • Help create project specific commissioning plans with Project teams, incorporating input from owner commissioning agents, vendors, and client operations teams.
  • Provide leadership to project teams to ensure they are properly preparing for commissioning from project onset.
  • Provide troubleshooting support as needed to ensure systems achieve required performance under real operating conditions.

Risk Management
  • Help project teams maintain active MEP risk register across design, procurement, sequencing, integration, and performance.
  • Identify cost, schedule, and operational risks early.
  • Drive mitigation before risks impact project outcomes.
  • Support disciplined decision-making based on technical and execution risk.

Client & Stakeholder Leadership
  • Serve as primary MEP technical leader with client engineering and operations teams.
  • Clearly communicate system readiness, risks, and execution status.
  • Build trust through technical competence, ownership, and disciplined execution.
  • Support client startup, turnover, and operational reliability goals.
  • Strengthen long-term client confidence in system performance and delivery capability
