Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the MEP Quality Management Plan aligned with aviation project standards.
  • Ensure compliance of all MEP installations with contract specifications, Chicago codes, FAA guidelines.
  • Oversee inspection and testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in an airport environment.
  • Review and approve technical submittals and Inspection & Test Plans focused on system integration.
  • Conduct field audits in operational areas, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective actions to avoid impacts on operations.
  • Coordinate with airport authorities and operational teams to resolve quality and access issues.

MEP Quality Manager

Location: Chicago, IL (O'Hare International Airport Project)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the MEP Quality Management Plan (QMP) aligned with aviation project standards and airport authority requirements (e.g., CDA).
  • Ensure all MEP installations comply with contract specifications, Chicago codes, FAA guidelines, and aviation-specific standards and operational constraints.
  • Oversee inspection and testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and airfield/terminal support systems in an active airport environment.
  • Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, method statements, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) with focus on airport system integration and phasing.
  • Conduct field audits in secure, operational areas ensuring minimal disruption to airport operations and strict adherence to safety/security protocols.
  • Manage NCRs, corrective actions, and root cause analysis, ensuring timely resolution to avoid impacts to airport operations and commissioning schedules.
  • Coordinate closely with airport authorities, TSA/security teams, airlines, and terminal operators to resolve quality and access-related issues.
  • Maintain detailed QA/QC documentation, including turnover packages required for airport authority acceptance and regulatory compliance.
  • Support and oversee commissioning activities, including integrated systems testing (IST) critical to airport functionality.
  • Lead QA/QC team and promote a culture of quality, safety, and compliance in a complex, high-security aviation environment.

Requirements

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years of MEP construction experience with 5+ years in QA/QC or quality management roles.
  • Direct experience on aviation or large transportation infrastructure projects required (airport terminal or airside experience highly preferred).
  • Experience working in active, phased construction environments with continuous operations strongly preferred.

Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of aviation-related MEP systems, including terminal HVAC, critical power systems, baggage handling interfaces, fire/life safety systems, and low-voltage/security systems.
  • Familiarity with integrated systems testing (IST), commissioning in operational facilities, and turnover to airport authorities.
  • Proficiency with QA/QC platforms (Procore, Aconex) and BIM coordination tools (Navisworks, Revit).
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, IPC, and aviation/airport authority requirements.
