MEP Estimator III - Mechanical

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a MEP Estimator III Mechanical that will be responsible for leading estimating efforts of gathering, calculating, and compiling data to produce project estimates for multiple projects, as well as providing support for large projects.

This is a hybrid position and must be based in one of these regional office locations: Chicago, Denver, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, or Seattle

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Organize, plan, and schedule estimate preparation, facilitating necessary meetings and assigning work
  • Ensure complete and reliable estimates incorporating all relevant information, adjusting assignments as needed
  • Determine trade partner strategy, prepare invitations to bid, and obtain relevant documents including BIM
  • Conduct complete quantity surveys, determine site logistics and schedule requirements, and utilize cost history to inform scope and pricing
  • Ensure estimates meet company and group margin goals, prepare and present margin plans, and manage Bid Day or presentations to owners
  • Provide cost modeling, value analysis, and target value delivery, performing cost studies and assisting design teams
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of self-performed work scopes, ensuring accurate pricing
  • Build and maintain relationships with operations personnel, design partners, trade partners, and owners
  • Collaborate with team members, participate in group estimating meetings, and develop industry knowledge base
  • Advance group capabilities through involvement in initiatives and coaching less experienced team members
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience
  • Minimum six years construction industry experience
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple project tasks and lead multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with building and estimating techniques, software, and BIM for quantifying work
  • Proven ability to lead teams of estimators on larger projects and use cost history software for pricing
  • Ability to complete self-performed estimates, analyze past project data, and understand impacts of schedule and logistics
  • Positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills, active listening, and effective communication
  • Ability to prepare deliverables, present estimates, and travel up to 20%
  • Knowledge of construction law, business practices, and Equal Employment Opportunity
  • Ability to perform quantity surveys for MEPT systems, identify value analysis, and validate design
  • Understand productivity standards, local labor rates, and coordinate owner furnished/contractor installed equipment
  • Build and maintain relationships with trade partners, design engineers, and industry professionals

The base pay range for this role is $106,600 - $159,900. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
