BLUvera, Mortenson's vertically integrated manufacturing and fabrication affiliate, is seeking an experienced MEP Design Phase Manager to help develop and deliver innovative electrical and mechanical products for use on active construction projects. This role offers the opportunity to lead MEP design efforts from concept through implementation, contributing to product development, estimating, partner selection, early scheduling, design development, quality control, and commissioning planning-bringing new ideas to life in the built environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the product development process from ideation to implementation, utilizing product roadmaps to ensure structured progress.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to create comprehensive documentation, establish best practices, and develop procedures for scaling from prototyping to full production.
  • Work closely with customers/owners to define completed product expectations, including key factors to focus on within the product development process.
  • Facilitate the solicitation, selection, and contracting with designers for design build projects
  • Develop and/or lead the preparation and presentation of documents through product development.
  • Develop detailed product development schedules.
  • Conduct detailed construction planning, including contract manual, subcontractor selections, MWD/BE participation, trade and site utilization planning, disruption avoidance planning, owner direct purchase planning, all within principles of Lean Design Delivery and utilization of BIM/VDC technology
  • Lead design team members in facilitating designs incorporating constructability, logistics solutions, identifying customers' expectations, and critical success factors, providing meaningful input to project's programming and conceptual design activities.
  • Lead estimating team members in development of technical design aspects of project including drawing, specifications, and scheduling, in addition to cost documentation.
  • Manage costs of the design phase, including estimate preparation, technical estimating, valued engineering, life-cycle analysis and budgetary/financial management
  • Ensure regulatory approvals are obtained and risk management requirements are met for insurance, bonding, owner contract, and subcontractor T & Cs
  • Oversight and supervision of design phase team members
  • Mentor Design Phase Engineers and encourage career development and growth
  • Ensure team members have resources and support
  • Provide work direction and performance evaluations
  • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions if needed
  • Model and set the tone for exceptional customer relations, gathering feedback and clarification during design process, as well as identifying future projects and collaboration


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field
  • Minimum 10 years of construction experience, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor
  • Minimum five years of estimating or on-site project management experience, with one to two years as a Preconstruction Manager
  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing abilities at all organizational levels
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, initiative, and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, scheduling, cost control, drawings, specifications, and standards
  • Active listening skills and effective communication
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

The base pay range for this role is $113,500 - $170,300. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
