We are building toward a global footprint of 10,000 enterprise customers—each running complex, mission-critical supply chain and business planning operations on our platform. Our ambition goes further: o9 is pursuing a neurosymbolic AI architecture—combining the reasoning power of large language models with the formal rigor of symbolic computation and constraint-based planning. The person who steps into this role will literally write the playbook and construct the foundation for this architecture.

The north star for our customers is the APEX operating model—a state of integrated, autonomous, AI-driven planning that eliminates the friction between insight and action across the enterprise. This role is the architectural engine that makes APEX possible.

The Talent-First Hiring Approach

We are adopting an open-pool, talent-first search to build out our global core AI team across multiple levels of seniority. Rather than fitting exceptional engineers and researchers into rigid titles upfront, candidates are evaluated holistically based on their technical depth, problem-solving abilities, and potential impact. Final roles and levels will be tailored to each candidate’s unique skillset and experience.

Core Impact Tracks

Candidates will be evaluated for placement across one or more of the following six impact domains:

• Data Engineering: Architect high-throughput data pipelines and power our Enterprise Knowledge Graph to handle petabyte-scale enterprise operational data.

• Software Engineering: Construct high-performance software frameworks and architectural blueprints that enable hundreds of engineers to safely and predictably ship AI capabilities.

• Machine Learning:Benchmark, fine-tune, and deploy state-of-the-art connectionist neural networks, foundation models, and vector infrastructures at scale.

• Forecasting: Develop predictive time-series models and statistical engines to drive high-accuracy demand planning across global supply networks.

• Optimization: Design deterministic, constraint-based solvers and algorithmic planning engines to automate complex enterprise decisions.

• Agentic AI:Architect state-of-the-art agentic workflows and multi-agent systems to support autonomous enterprise planning and the APEX operating model.

What we look for

• Deep Technical Foundations: Strong engineering or research background with a proven track record of building and transforming software platforms or complex algorithms.

• Tier-1 Tech Background: Tenure at premier technology organizations or high-growth tech platforms.

• Algorithmic & Neurosymbolic Aptitude:Experience or strong interest in combining statistical/neural AI techniques with symbolic, rule-based, or constraint-driven planning.

• High Autonomy: Fast-moving, comfortable operating without bureaucratic approval chains, and accountable for technical outcomes.

• Scale & Production Focus: Passion for taking cutting-edge R&D and turning it into scalable, production-grade enterprise software.

Our Interview Process

We believe in evaluating engineering talent through meaningful conversations rather than generic, automated coding tests. Our process is designed to be candidate-centric, transparent, and tailored to your specific technical domain.

• Talent Acquisition Screen:An initial conversation with our TA team to learn about your background, share details on our core AI vision, and align on potential impact tracks and seniority levels.

• Technical & Architectural Discussions (3x 45-Minute Sessions): Three separate, conversation-style technical interviews with current o9 engineers. Interviewers are hand-selected for each candidate based on your specific background and technical expertise. These sessions focus on real-world problem-solving, architectural design, and deep technical discussions.

• Final Round with CTO:A strategic discussion with Ashwin Rao, our CTO, focusing on top-level technical vision, AI architecture, culture fit, and where you can drive the highest impact within o9's AI organization.
