Full Job Description
The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks a Med Tech Manager to lead operations within the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory in the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC). This position combines technical expertise in anatomic pathology with leadership responsibilities that include overseeing laboratory operations, managing staff performance and development, and driving process improvements. The role also serves as a key resource and drives collaboration across faculty, staff, and external partners. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversee daily Anatomic Pathology laboratory operations, workflows, staffing, equipment, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient diagnostic services.
  • Lead, train, and support technical staff while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Perform and supervise specialized anatomic pathology diagnostic procedures and maintain technical expertise across all lab functions.
  • Manage quality assurance, regulatory compliance, audits, and continuous improvement activities to maintain laboratory standards.


Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in histotechnology, clinical laboratory science, or related program with a minimum of two years of successful leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in anatomic pathology techniques and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate daily operations in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective communication and delegation skills with the ability to translate complex information into easily understood terms
  • Experience upholding compliance with an established quality assurance system.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to an ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing lab procedures.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Forensic case processing, including forensic record keeping and chain of custody.
  • ASCP Histotechnology certification.


Important Details about the Position
  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This is a full-time three-year term position with extension contingent upon funding and performance.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.


While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
