Position Summary We are seeking an experienced
Medical Physicist to join our team in
Chicago, IL. In this role, you will provide clinical and research physics support across multiple healthcare locations. Working under the direction of the Medical Chairman, you will be responsible for the design optimization, technical evaluation, calibration, and quality assurance of diagnostic imaging and radiation equipment to ensure safe, accurate, and effective patient care.
This position plays a key role in radiation safety, clinical research, equipment optimization, staff education, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with physicians, radiologists, technologists, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
Essential Responsibilities - Provide clinical physics support for diagnostic imaging and radiation-related services.
- Collaborate with radiologists, imaging specialists, and clinical scientists to enhance patient care, research, and service development.
- Evaluate, calibrate, and optimize imaging and radiation equipment to ensure accurate radiation dose delivery.
- Develop equipment specifications and provide technical guidance during equipment selection, purchasing, installation, and site planning.
- Ensure facility shielding requirements and technical performance standards are met.
- Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs for diagnostic imaging equipment.
- Perform acceptance testing, certification, and ongoing performance evaluations of imaging systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and healthcare quality requirements.
- Lead technical aspects of imaging accreditation processes, including technologist training, QA monitoring, and annual system performance evaluations.
- Develop and optimize clinical and research imaging protocols in collaboration with physicians and clinical leadership.
- Recommend cost-effective equipment upgrades and new technologies to improve clinical capabilities.
- Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), overseeing the organization's radiation safety program in accordance with applicable NRC regulations.
- Identify radiation safety concerns, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with all radiation safety requirements.
- Participate in Radiation Safety, Hospital Safety, and other multidisciplinary committees.
- Support clinical research initiatives by developing innovative imaging methods and improving existing techniques.
- Present research findings at professional conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Educate physicians, residents, nurses, technologists, and hospital staff on radiation safety, imaging physics, and best practices through formal and informal educational programs.
Qualifications Required: - Master's degree in Radiological Physics, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic imaging physics, quality assurance, radiation safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with QA/QC programs, equipment calibration, and imaging system performance evaluations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred: - PhD in Radiological Physics, Physics, or a related field.
- Previous experience serving as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
- Experience supporting imaging accreditation and regulatory inspections.
- Research experience with presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
