Job Description:

The Clinical Director is responsible for the strategic, clinical, and operational leadership of clinical and nursing services across multiple outpatient oncology clinics and infusion centers. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based oncology care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing infusion operations, supporting practice growth, and promoting exceptional patient experience.

The Director serves as a key clinical leader and partner to physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacies, operations, and executive leadership to standardize nursing practices, improve patient outcomes, enhance workforce engagement, and support the expansion of oncology services throughout the organization. The Clinical Director reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Clinical Director serves as the clinical counterpart to the Senior Director of Medical Oncology, ensuring the alignment between clinical operations and physician leadership.

Scope of Responsibility

• Oversight of nursing operations across multi-site oncology infusion centers.
• Leadership of Clinical Nurse Managers, infusion nurses, medical assistants, and clinical support staff

Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership

• Provide clinical oversight of all clinics, nursing and infusion services across oncology clinics.
• Ensure safe administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive care therapies.
• Promote adherence to Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) standards, evidence-based practices, and state nursing regulations.
• Serve as a clinical expert and resource for complex oncology patient care issues.
• Lead initiatives focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and nursing excellence.

Operational Management

• Standardize clinical workflows, nursing practices, and patient care processes across all locations.
• Monitor and optimize infusion center operations, including chair utilization, patient throughput, staffing efficiency, and access to care.
• Collaborate with practice administrators and physician leaders to identify operational improvement opportunities.
• Support implementation of new therapies, treatment pathways, and clinical service lines.
• Lead clinical integration efforts for newly acquired or expanding practices.

Nursing Leadership & Workforce Development

• Directly oversee Clinical Nurse Managers and nursing leaders within each practice.
• Develop and maintain staffing models aligned with patient volume and acuity.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and retention initiatives.
• Develop and implement standardized nursing training in collaboration with Clinical Lead of Nursing services, while providing ongoing oversight to ensure competency, consistency, and alignment with clinical standards.
• Conduct performance evaluations and develop succession plans for nursing leadership positions.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, engagement, and professional growth.
• Oversee and manage all REMS programs to ensure compliance with medication safety requirements, staff education, documentation standards, and required operational workflows.

Education & Professional Development

• Ensure ongoing competency validation for oncology nursing staff.
• Oversee orientation programs for new nurses and clinical team members.
• Promote certification attainment, including OCN and ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification.
• Develop continuing education programs and nursing leadership development initiatives.
• Partner with education teams to implement annual competency assessments and regulatory training.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management initiatives in medical oncology in partnership with the Quality and Safety Sr. Manager.
• Monitor compliance with ONS, OSHA, USP , CMS, state regulatory agencies, and accreditation standards.
• Review clinical incidents, patient safety events, and infection prevention metrics.
• Develop and monitor corrective action plans when necessary.
• Ensure readiness for regulatory surveys and accreditation reviews.

Financial & Strategic Leadership

• Participate in budgeting, labor planning, and resource allocation.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
• Partner with pharmacy, finance, and operations leaders to support medication utilization and operational optimization.
• Support strategic initiatives, practice growth, and expansion of oncology services.
• Evaluate clinical technologies, equipment, and vendor partnerships that enhance patient care and operational performance.

Collaborative Leadership

• Build strong partnerships with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy leaders, and operational leadership.
• Participate in enterprise-wide committees and multidisciplinary leadership teams.
• Serve as the nursing representative for oncology service line planning and clinical innovation initiatives.
• Promote standardized care delivery across all practices while respecting local operational needs

Required or Preferred Qualifications:

• Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum 7 years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
• Minimum 5 years of oncology infusion or outpatient oncology leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading multiple clinical sites and nursing leaders.
• Knowledge of oncology treatment regimens, infusion operations, and regulatory requirements.
• Preferred
• Master's degree in nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or Business Administration (MBA).
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification.
• ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification.
• Experience with oncology EMR platforms and infusion workflow management.
• Experience leading enterprise-wide clinical quality and operational improvement initiatives.
