We are seeking a Medical Instrument Technician (Diagnostic Ultrasound) to support the Veteran community in the Minneapolis, MN area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals.

Position Highlights:
  • Logistics:
    • Pay: $41.00 per hour
    • Contract Type: 1 base year with 1, 1-year option periods
    • Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
    • Location: 1 Veterans Dr, Minneapolis, MN 55417
  • Requirements:

    • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Certification in echocardiography imaging by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
    • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

What does a typical day look like for the Medical Instrument Technician (Diagnostic Ultrasound)?

You will:
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 - 4:30, with a 30-minute unpaid break.
  • On-Call includes:
    • One weeknight per week between the hours of 5:00 pm - 7:30 am the following morning.
    • One weekend out of every four weekends. Weekend hours start at 5:00 pm on Friday and conclude at 7:30 the following Monday.
    • Three federal holidays
  • Direct Patient Care: estimated 90% of their time is involved in direct patient care.
    • Preparing and positioning patients for Echosonography procedures. Including explaining the procedure and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging process.
    • Selecting appropriate imaging techniques, calibrating and adjusting lab equipment, and operating the laboratory equipment to produce high-quality images.
    • Review and verify image quality, ensuring it meets diagnostic standards, and communicate with providers for further evaluation.
  • Administrative: estimated 10% of time not involved in direct patient care.
    • Maintain detailed patient records, documenting procedures performed, and handling confidential patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations.
    • Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret and discuss imaging results and to provide comprehensive patient care.
    • Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcomes of examinations.
    • Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care.
    • Refer all patient/customer service issues to the Supervisory Physician, Nurse Manager or designee.
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Certification in echocardiography imaging by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.

If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.
