Media Planning SupervisorHouston, TXAbout the roleThis role oversees day-to-day media planning operations, coordinating workloads, priorities, and resources across planning team members to ensure work is delivered on time, on budget, and to agency quality standards. The position guides integrated media planning strategy by translating client objectives, audience insights, and business priorities into clear planning direction, while reviewing plans, allocations, and deliverables for accuracy, effectiveness, and strategic alignment. It supports strong campaign performance by monitoring pacing, delivery, and results, identifying optimization opportunities, and helping teams recommend adjustments that improve business outcomes. The role also develops planning talent through coaching, feedback, and training, while strengthening cross-functional collaboration, improving planning processes, and promoting innovation, continuous learning, and values-based leadership across the media function.
What you'll do- Lead planning operations and team coordination - Oversee planning workloads, assignments, project priorities, and day-to-day execution across Media Planners and Junior Media Planners. Ensure resources are aligned appropriately, planning activities remain on schedule, and teams deliver work that meets agency standards for quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Guide integrated media planning strategy - Partner with media leadership to translate client objectives, audience insights, and business priorities into planning direction for assigned accounts. Provide guidance to planners on channel selection, targeting approaches, investment allocation, and overall planning frameworks that support campaign effectiveness and business outcomes.
- Oversee planning quality and execution excellence - Review media plans, budget allocations, flowcharts, reporting deliverables, and planning recommendations for accuracy, strategic alignment, and quality. Ensure campaigns are executed according to approved plans, timelines, budgets, and operational standards.
- Lead planning team development and coaching - Provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and performance feedback to Media Planners and Junior Media Planners. Support onboarding, training, professional development planning, and ongoing skill development while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning across the team.
- Support strategic media recommendations and client presentations - Contribute to the development of media recommendations, planning rationale, and performance insights for clients and internal stakeholders. Participate in planning discussions, presentations, and strategic reviews while helping ensure media recommendations align with client objectives and investment priorities.
- Drive campaign optimization and performance oversight - Monitor planning effectiveness across campaigns and accounts by reviewing pacing, delivery, performance results, and optimization opportunities. Ensure planning teams identify risks and recommend adjustments that improve effectiveness, efficiency, and business outcomes.
- Strengthen cross-functional collaboration - Build strong working relationships with account teams, buyers, analytics teams, strategy partners, creative teams, vendors, and media partners. Facilitate communication, alignment, and problem-solving across stakeholders to support integrated media execution and successful client outcomes.
- Improve planning processes and operational effectiveness - Lead initiatives that improve planning workflows, documentation standards, knowledge sharing, resource utilization, training programs, and operational consistency. Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce risk, and elevate planning quality across the media function.
- Identify media innovation and industry opportunities - Stay informed on emerging media platforms, consumer behavior trends, measurement approaches, technologies, and industry best practices. Share relevant insights with planning teams and leadership while encouraging innovation that improves client performance and planning effectiveness.

Qualifications- Relevant Degree - Bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, communications, business, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating applied knowledge of media planning, budgeting, and client-facing campaign coordination.
- Client Coordination - Demonstrated experience working directly with clients and cross-functional agency teams to translate objectives into actionable media recommendations, maintain planning accuracy, and optimize in-flight campaigns using pacing and early performance indicators.
- Media Planning - Typically 7 or more years of experience in media planning or integrated media account support with responsibility for building tactical channel plans, managing budgets, and coordinating campaign execution across multiple accounts or markets.
- People Leadership & Team Development - Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, training, or supervising team members while providing feedback, supporting performance development, delegating work, and helping individuals build professional capabilities and achieve team objectives.
