Reports to: Team Lead, technologists/Machinist

Hours per week: 40

Number Required: 1

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
  • Execute mechanical fabrication, assembly and testing projects including but not limited to tasks such as mechanical assembly and functional testing (large and small equipment) and specialized activities such as craning and pressure testing (hydro, pneumatic)
  • Perform or support basic electrical assembly and testing such as cable manufacturing, potting, continuity testing, and megger testing
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory and field troubleshooting and investigations with a high degree of independence
  • Support in the design, assembly and maintenance of equipment, processes, systems and development of test methods.
  • Exhibit occasional leadership skills through mentoring and coaching of peers to reinforce a strong safety, quality, and human performance culture
  • Perform inspection of product and document on inspection forms, and preparation of shipments.
  • Testing products to our approved procedures, using a variety of measurement and test equipment, including pressure gauges, pressure transmitters, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, calipers, etc.
  • Ability to support troubleshooting and maintenance efforts on equipment to include complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Complete required paperwork to support our QA program, including incoming inspections, non-conformance reports, components substitution forms, inspection and test plans and test results.
  • Participate in the analysis of test results and data by use of standard software packages.
  • Write reports of a predominantly routine nature, and preparation of records (descriptions of test methods, observations, and test data).
  • Support continuous improvement activities by providing feedback on processes and procedures to project managers, engineering staff, section managers, and directors
  • Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, and photocopying.
  • Perform routine processes and duties such as shipping, receiving, inventory control, housekeeping, etc.
  • May require travel to and work at customer sites in Canada and on occasion internationally to support planned and forced outage work
  • Perform other duties as required.

What You Need to Succeed

  • 8 years related experience or equivalent advanced education in field of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Millwright, or similar.
  • Candidate should have 8 - 10 years' hands-on experience with tools and knowledge of mechanical fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing, and maintenance of equipment and systems
  • Candidate should have 8 - 10 years of mechanical fabrication and assembly techniques
  • Candidate should have 8 - 10 years' experience in the field of mechanical testing including but not limited to HVAC, flow, and pressure testing (hydrostatic and pneumatic)
  • Experience in field support at client sites for deployment, oversight, or troubleshooting of equipment
  • Experience with the performance of specialized mechanical assembly and testing of several CANDU reactor tooling (e.g. SLAR, ANDE, steam generators, heat exchangers, connectorized umbilicals, refurbishment tooling, etc.) is considered an asset
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgement and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills to work co-operatively with staff & clients.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively to lead and build teams
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good computer skills for data acquisition and analysis
  • High level of initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be granted nuclear site security clearance


This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
