deciBel Research has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Systems Engineer in Huntsville, AL.

Position Description:

The selected Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program as an individual contributor on the HWE environmental team. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance of the GWS system design with hardware requirements, through equipment evaluation and design guidance and analysis products. This role directly supports the design and development of the GWS capability on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, collaborative/teams comprised of all experience levels.

Due to the nature of the role, this is not offered as a teleworking or hybrid position.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of related experience, or a Master's STEM degree and 1 years of related experience, or 0 years of experience with a PhD
  • Ability to travel at least 10%
  • Recent design experience using a 3D CAD Package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX
  • Experience drafting & reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards
  • Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP
  • Experience in evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and datasheet meets requirements
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000, MIL-STD-461
  • Experience evaluating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and military parts for compliance to meet requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Team, and PowerPoint

Special Skills Desired:
  • Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards; demonstrated experience in structural design and impact assessments
  • Experience with Agile or Kanban workflow, including tools such as Jira
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)
  • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware
  • Passion for fast-paced environments
