Overview:

We are seeking a Nonproliferation R&D Execution - Technical Staff Member who will focus on the development and utilization of nonproliferation research & development (R&D) test-beds where personnel from various divisions within the National Security Sciences Directorate (NSSD) form an integrated team to address complex national security problems. This position resides in the Applied Technical Analysis Group in the Analysis Section, Field Intelligence Operations Division, National Security Sciences Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead technical coordination with sponsors, ORNL program managers, and various engineering professionals to conceptualize, design, construct, and operate nonproliferation R&D test-beds.
  • Interface with the Facility and Operations Directorate to plan and execute maintenance of R&D test-beds.
  • Assist with implementation of environmental, safety, health and regulatory requirements to support research activities.
  • Facilitate completion of the operational activities deemed necessary through the work control process or as requested to support research objectives in a manner that ensures the safe and compliant execution of the research mission.
  • Lead and/or participate in safety inspections.
  • Interact closely with customers and other support team members in work planning.
  • Assist line management in implementing the Integrated Safety Management Program.
  • Coordinate with researchers to identify and pursue opportunities for improved operational efficiencies or effectiveness that will enhance the research missions.
  • Lead and/or participate in the reviews and/or development of group level procedures and guidelines as needed.
  • Assist line management in response to injuries or events, occurrence reporting, incidents of security concern, investigations, and corrective actions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working in a collaborative environment in support of research activities


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the design and/or operation of complex mechanical and chemical engineering systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Special Requirements:
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Q clearance with SCI: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. In addition, due the SCI, you may also be subject to random polygraph testing.
