Full Job Description
Position Overview:

The Mechanical Systems Engineer - Couplers and Articulation reports to the Carshell Calculations Engineering Manager. This is a full time, in person (not remote) role located in Sacramento, California. You will be the customer facing subject matter expert responsible for engineering activities involved in the specification, procurement, integration, verification, and validation of the supplier provided coupler and articulation systems for passenger rail vehicles along with associated systems regulatory compliance.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Collaborate regularly with internal and external partners both within the United States and in Europe
  • Customer technical specification requirements management
  • Write technical specifications defining requirements for supplier provided coupler and articulation systems with a focus on mechanical, electrical, and software integration
  • Preparation of bid documentation, such as technical writeups and CDRL's
  • Support the procurement of the coupler and articulation systems

To thrive in this role, you have:
  • BS degree in Mechanical + 5 years of relevant experience; or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering + 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD in Mechanical Engineering + 1 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience using 3D cad software for the design and integration of mechanical systems (preferably PTC Creo)
  • Working knowledge of Finite Element analysis and strength assessment principles
  • Working knowledge of interpretation of electrical schematics
  • Experience with projects from start to finish of the bid, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, testing, operational, and warranty stages
  • Some travel is required.

Candidates should be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather if required or if applicable.

The pay range for this position is $112,200.00 - $131,886.00 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
