Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join the team.

The Mechanical Project Engineer will:

  • Work ina team environment to analyze requirements from customers and developdesign solutions.
  • Design,develop, test, implement, and analyze technical products and systems.
  • Performengineering designs and evaluations for thermal vacuum space simulationtesting.
  • Produceengineering drawings conforming to JPR 8500 and other applicablestandards.
  • Abilityto troubleshoot facility systems and or components and instructtechnicians on repair solutions.
  • Collaboratewith NASA Pressure Systems to complete Pressure Systems Design Reviews. 5year experience is desired.
  • 5 yearsof direct work with ASME B31.3 Process piping and ASME Boiler and PressureVessels is desired.
  • Prepareand present designs at various engineering design reviews.
  • Preparework authorizing documents (WADs) required to support the installation ofhardware into human in the loop vacuum/thermal vacuum chambers.
  • Applyengineering principles and techniques to create solutions to equipment,building, and infrastructure challenges.
  • Prepareengineering specifications, statements of work, and estimates for a widerange of facility-related projects.
  • Prepare,submit & track all phases of procurement, inspection, fabrication& installation into the facility and test chambers.
  • Coordinateand lead Mechanical Engineering designers, stress engineers and drawingcheckers to complete detailed fabrication drawings.
  • Expressgood leadership qualities be highly motivated, well organized, and capableof working within a closely-knit team.
  • Abilityto oversee and direct technicians while performing installation orfabrication of engineering products.

  • Typicallyrequires a bachelor's degree in Engineering with experience in the fieldor in a related area.
  • Abilityto visualize and work with complex mechanical systems and work with othersin problem solving as part of a team.
  • Abilityto coordinate in a team environment to meet project milestone designreviews and integration
  • Maintainconfiguration control for all phases of project.
  • Abilityto develop a design based on Concept of Operations or establishedrequirements in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Able tointerpret and modify Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID).
  • Experiencedin the following: MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, Inventor or Creoor other similar CAD Software packages.
  • Familiarwith reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) principles
  • Familiarizationwith Liquid Nitrogen, Helium, and Oxygen Systems
  • Abilityto organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules withlimited supervision.
  • Abilityto respond well to the demands of working in a Thermal Vacuum Testingenvironment.
  • Shiftwork may be required to cover Test Operations.
  • Abilityto communicate, build relationships, be proactive, and work with a team.
  • Excellentoral and written communication skills Preferences
  • Presentationskills are required.

Requisition Preferences:

  • Familiarization with Johnson Space Center (JSC)organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Developand maintain project schedules and report the status (MSProject/Smartsheet)
  • Experiencewith NASA's Engineering Drawing System Manual, JPR 8500.4 is a plus
