Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer. In this role you will have the responsibility to pre-plan, manage, and provide engineering assistance on Mission Critical Data Center projects. This is a hybrid position, comprised of both project management and engineering responsibilities. When this work is not available, you will work on hospital, healthcare, education, and other construction projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review project drawings and specifications to assist pre-construction in estimating efforts.
  • Reach out to subcontractors and vendors for proposals in support of pre-construction and estimating.
  • Review drawings and specifications looking for inconsistencies, thoroughness, potential issues, and obtaining an overall understanding of the project.
  • Prepare, review, approve, and submit material and equipment submittals.
  • Manage sub-contractors, ensuring their work is performed on time, and according to details and specifications.
  • Attend project coordination meetings to ensure our work is not impeded, can be installed according to plan, and on time.
  • Walk the site with stakeholders to review work, ensure we're in compliance, and assist in any necessary remediation plans.
  • Track equipment deliveries and ensure sub-contractors are on time when needed, and in compliance with all requirements of the site.
  • Participate in start-up and commissioning of systems and equipment where necessary.
  • Submit accurate, timely, and complete estimates and Change Order Requests.
  • Work with the Client and GC to develop comprehensive hydrostatic testing and flush plans.
  • Work with field team to implement hydrostatic testing and flush plans.
  • Satisfy the customer's needs to secure repeat business.
  • Promote and enforce a safe working environment.
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Five years of Project Management or Project Engineering experience preferred.
  • ABET accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology degree (ME, MET, CHEME, BCMT, ECM, etc.)
  • Experience with projects valued over $5MM.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, flow diagrams and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate controls requirements and support system commissioning.
  • Experience in generating and maintaining project schedules (MS Project).
  • Experience in submitting and responding to RFIs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in acquiring and managing sub-contractors.
  • Customer focused.
  • Self-motived and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Team player with the ability to motivate others with a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours, off shift, or on weekends when required.
