Summary

Sr Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical, Responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing environment, including stamping and punch presses, lasers, conveyance systems and automation equipment. The qualified candidate will provide technical support to production, introduce processes for new products, and execute capital projects. This position will support and interact with fabrication, glass coating, and assembly operations as well as multiple departments across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following, other duties may be assigned.
  • Determine best methods for manufacturing products with maximum efficiency.
  • Inspect and maintain the performance of all mechanical equipment and machinery to support the production processes.
  • Design production layouts, select and optimize equipment, and develop new manufacturing processes that represent the most competitive cost alternative while maintaining acceptable quality levels.
  • Analyze and improve current manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and reduce production costs.
  • Implement safety and quality control measures to ensure a safe and consistent product.
  • Design, develop, and test mechanical components, machines, and equipment.
  • Designs electrical components for machines, equipment, and control systems
  • Creates and tests methods and specifications that go into the production of mechanical devices
  • Applies principles of heat transfer, thermodynamics, mechanics, and hydraulics when developing products
  • Develop, justify, and support strategic capital projects.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement standardized work procedures to improve overall plant performance.
  • Provide training and support to plant personnel on new equipment and processes.
  • Analyzing production data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in plant performance.

  • Strong mechanical understanding for troubleshooting/designing manufacturing equipment.
  • Extensive experience with 3D CAD design.
  • Experience with CNC, punch presses, fiber lasers, robots, plc, and welding.
  • Equipment programming including lasers, robots, sensors and plc's preferrable.
  • Working Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma principles
  • Experience with facility layout, process design, PFMEA, and DOE.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels from the shop floor to Executive level to justify strategies and implement them effectively.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to project completion.
  • Effective problem solver, with ability to utilize analytical techniques to resolve conceptual issues.
  • Able to develop creative solutions that will result in technology that can provide a technological edge over competition.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • 10+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience designing equipment/tooling/fixtures.
  • Experience with Microsoft office and AutoCAD.
  • Experience and understanding of MRP systems a plus.
