Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer - Custom Engineering plays a key role in the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical solutions tailored to the specific needs of our Life Sciences clients.

An expert in design, they are involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from analyzing client requirements to implementing solutions, and actively participate in technical discussions with clients as well as in strategic engineering decisions.

What You will do as a Mechanical Engineer

  • Design, develop, document, and implement mechanical and/or electromechanical solutions in a custom project environment;
  • Define and propose complete washing solutions tailored to client applications, taking into account technical, operational, and regulatory constraints;
  • Analyze clients' technical needs and contribute to proposal preparation (concepts, feasibility, estimates);
  • Actively participate in internal design reviews and technical reviews with clients;
  • Apply fundamental mechanical engineering principles-statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, finite element analysis, and materials science-to develop solutions for life sciences equipment;Identify root causes of technical issues, propose sustainable solutions, and validate concepts according to engineering best practices;
  • Apply DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) principles to ensure robust, manufacturable, and optimized designs;
  • Collaborate closely with project, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to ensure efficient and consistent project execution;
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Execute assignments with a high level of autonomy, while identifying risks and meeting deadlines;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the optimization of departmental processes.


Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;Member in good standing of the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec);
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design;Proficiency in 3D design and modeling software: PTC Creo (asset), SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, and 2D drafting tools (AutoCAD);
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including welding/fabrication, machining, and assembly, to design manufacturable and optimized solutions in line with DFMA principles;
  • Experience with analysis and simulation software: ANSYS-finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermal analysis, etc. (asset);Knowledge of technical documentation, analysis, and communication tools: Microsoft Office, PLM systems (Windchill, Vault) for engineering data and change management (asset);
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating rigor, teamwork, and a customer-focused approach;
  • Ability to share knowledge, propose alternatives, and take well-reasoned technical risks;
  • Commitment to LEAN principles and continuous improvement;
  • Ability to produce detailed, high-quality technical documentation;
