Full Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to work in support of the Package Sorting Technology Group in the Engineering HQ facility for the US Postal Service. Work location is in Merrifield, VA.

Essential Functions:
  • Interpret and understand the changes from a redlined From-To drawing mark-up
  • Develop Solutions to issues such as end of life parts, enhancement of equipment and the analysis of production equipment
  • Design, develop, and test aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc
  • May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Works under immediate supervision
  • Reports to a supervisor or manager

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in area of specialty
  • Experience in independently completing design; including 3D modeling, 2D drawing, detailing and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Experience with using solid modeling software in 3D modeling and 2D drawings of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Experience using MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Minimal experience per position level shown in table below:


Mechanical Engineer III - A minimum of 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area required.

Additional Requirements:
  • Candidate must be able to sit, stand and work at a computer for prolonged periods
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Ability to travel as needed (less than 10%) and work mostly Monday to Friday from 8am - 5pm on occasion weekend hours may be required
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check & drug test
